Hello!

Hi, everyone. I joined a few weeks ago and have been making my way through the different forums. This seems like a really supportive community. I just turned 30 and want to my thirties my healthiest decade yet. I started my current attempt (struggled with weight since I was a kid) at weight loss on January 2 (weighed in at 240). This morning I weighed 224. I’d like to get down to 190 and then hopefully even 165-170. I already feel a lot more comfortable in my skin and can see a change in the mirror. I’ve been using myfitnesspal to keep track of calories. To lose 2 lbs a week, it says I should eat 1550 calories. I usually wind up 200 or so under that amount. I worry about eating too few calories because I’ve heard a little about “starvation mode”, but I haven’t really been hungry enough to eat the full 1550. I eat a lot of soup, which is pretty filling. I’ve also been doing some walking and yoga. I really hope this time I’ll be successful (I was a big yo-yo dieter in my 20s). So far I feel like I can sustain this level of eating and don’t feel like I’m depriving myself (I make sure to have a little bit of dark chocolate everyday). I also have cut out diet soda. I know it doesn’t have calories, but I keep hearing how bad it is. Anyway, I’m really glad to have found this website. Many of you are very inspirational and help to keep me motivated. :)

:welcome2: I too will turn 30 in a few days, calorie count and eat soup (usually everyday for lunch). I usually eat 1250 calories (I've had maybe 3 days of 1500-2000 calories this last month) and find that the weight is coming off fast :cheer2: I figure once I get a little bit more off then maybe I'll decrease my exercise or skip the soup and eat something a little more calorie laden.
I don't really have any advice as to how our bodies will respond to this since I'm at the beginning of my journey too, but figure I'll roll with the punches (some days it is SO HARD to eat anything more than 1250 calories!) but figure if I want to eat more I will, plus this gives me great incentive to keep going.
Good luck! 30's rock! ;)

Welcome! It'll be a bit of trial and error to see if you can maintain your current calorie intake. I was doing about 1200 to start and found that I couldn't sustain it. I went up and found out I only lost 1/2 lb /week at 1350 but then I am short. So you learn and tweak as you go. Welcome again!

Hi and welcome!

Thanks for the welcome! I think I'm going to up my calories. I've been stuck in the same 1 lb range for 11 or 12 days now, and with eating only 1200-1300 calories. My only guess is that it's not enough for my build/height. I think I'm going to shoot for 1800. That's what a lot of websites seem to suggest. Many suggest even more, but I can't bring myself to eat that much. I'd get out of control! It seems so counterintuitive to eat more to lose weight, but I guess I'll try it. Now I just have to come up with healthy stuff instead of junk to fill in those extra calories.
