Say Hi to a Newbie!

Hi Everyone,
my name is Lucy and this is my first post on 3FC :D Today is the day I have started my weight loss journey and I look forward to reading and sharing with lots of people. Its taken me 5 years, a doctorate degree and a baby to gain 45 kgs and I've decided to do the whole diet/exercise thingy. Nothing fancy, just normal/ less processed food and a gym membership.
Hoping I can make some friends!!

Hi Lucy! I am new here too, I also believe in non fancy weight loss. Just some good old fashioned exercise and better food choices. I lost weight doing that before and plan on doing it again (this time with a focus on maintenance). I think people are always disappointed when they ask me how I lose the weight and I simply tell them I go by calories in vs. calories out. They seem to want a magic bullet answer but I can't give it to them! :dizzy:

Welcome to 3FC. I'm newer as well. This community is great though. Everyone is supportive. I'm basically following the same steps as you with just eating healthier and exercising at a gym every other day.

Welcome.

I'm newish myself, as well.

I'm using the myFitnessPal app and website to track calories in from eating and calories expended by exercise, and planning meals so I meet my projected net calories.

I've seen other people say they use LoseIt (and there are other apps).

I've never counted calories at this level before, but an app makes it easy, if you have a smart phone. I can scan in bar codes on store bought food, I can often find even restaurant food already entered--it does the calculations and journaling all my food has kept me much more compliant. (Say I, just 2 weeks in) (But there are studies that report that people lose more weight when they keep a food diary.)

The other thing I'm doing is reading Dr Judith Beck's book The Beck Diet Solution: How to Train your Brain to Think like a Thin Person. I highly recommend it. It's based on cognitive behavior theory and applying that to eating habits and weight loss.

Good luck with your journey--this is a great forum!

Beth from Dayton, I've also been myfitnesspal and I love it! 2 weeks and I'm doing well so far.

Hello Lucy

I'm new here as well.

I had browsed through the forum before but joined just now. I still have to get the hang of things around here, but I'm glad I joined. :)
