23 and want to change

Hi all,

My name is Dani. I'm 23 and around 210lbs. I have been overweight my whole life and have been 200lbs or heavier since I was 12(!) I have always had a problem with overeating and have gone through periods of extreme binging.

Anyway, I want to lose weight because it seems I've finally put on all the weight my frame can stand. My knees squish and crack climbing stairs and I can't even do exercises like squats or lunges anymore because my knees can't take the weight. I'm worried about the long-term damage my weight is doing to my knees. I'm also disappointed with myself that this is me at 23. Lately my weight has been embarrassing me so much to the point that I don't even want to leave the house anymore and except for work, I don't.

Right now, I'm just trying to take things one day at a time. I know that if I get my eating under control, I will lose weight. I just need to have patience and not put pressure on myself to look/weigh a certain way by some ridiculous deadline.

Sorry if I rambled. Good luck to all those here!:)

:welcome2: Welcome dani!!

You are so smart to do this while you are young, trust me!! I wish I listened to everyone when I was your age. :)

Good luck with your weightloss. Drink lots of water and keep a log of what you eat, it will be a great start! These forums are full of useful and helpful information. Post often, anytime you want to join right in!!

Welcome to the board Danni!

I agree that it's wonderful that you've made the decision to get healthy at such a young age. I didn't have the mental strength to do it at 23, that's for sure! I've also been very overweight for the majority of my life, and I've missed out on a lot. Your world will open up when you feel better!

If your joints are already giving you grief, consider swimming for exercise. My knees were in horrible shape and I have sciatica, so when I started, swimming was all I could do.

I'm new here but was reading your post and wanted to say that once I got about 45-50 pounds off my knees and back are thanking me. I now go to curves and can do the circut 3 times easy. so hang in there and start slow. this is a long process but so worth it.
