To Young to be Fat!

  • Hello!

My name is Katherine. I am 24 years old and have struggled with my weight since junior high. I am currently around 220 lbs, which is just about 10 lbs less than my all time high of 230.

I am married to a wonderful man who has never struggled to maintain a healthy weight and just doesn't understand the challenge. He loves to bikeand hike and I want to be in better shape to do those things with him.

Though I am from the States, I am currently living in India, where I work in the non-profit, education sector, which I love. I am also finishing up a MA in international education.

I eat a (mostly) healthy vegetarian diet--I very rarely have any processed food. I actually don't know why I have not lost more weight since moving to India because I eat way healthier here (90% veggies, pulses, rice, whole wheat and fruit) than I ever did in college. But, I think I would be really happy around 140 lbs (no scientific way of arriving at that number... I am open to suggestions!), which would be my lowest weight since like 8th grade!

I know that I need more accountability to make this happen. I want to drop this weight for my husband, our future kids (2-3 years down the line), our adventurous, ever-traveling lifestyle, and for myself.

If any of you have suggestions about a plan, I would love to hear it!

    Katherine
  • Hi Katherine, I am also new here

    Welcome

    Have fun exploring
  • Hello and to both of you
  • Welcome to you both!!

    @ ktrbnit:
I know the feeling of "too young to be fat". I'm 25, going to be 26 in like two weeks, and I've been overweight since middle school as well. My highest was 210 that was in high school, but when I got out of college i was around 162 (my lowest ever as an adult). My BF had a weight problem but he dropped the weight almost over night (like 30 lbs in 2 months :O ) and has been slim ever since.

And your dropping the weight for the same reason I am! we are intending to have kids in like 4 years and for smooth pregnancy, a healthy me means a healthy baby!

Wish you ALLLLLL the luck in the world!!
  • Hi Katherine! I can totally relate to having a husband who has never had issues with weight or food and can't begin to understand the struggle. It sounds like you live a really adventurous lifestyle, which is awesome!

I calorie count, but I imagine that may be more difficult living in India.

  • I count calories and find it really helpful because sometimes you think you are eating really well and then you add up the calories and would be shocked by how high the really are.

This is a great site though, so welcome
  • Hi and welcome!
  • Thank you all for the kind greetings!

    A two part update--

The first is that I have been exercising since I started 10 days ago. I have either gone on a 1 hour walk or done a 30 minute Jillian Michaels dvd each day. It's amazing how fast your body can start feeling strong when you start working out

The second thing is that I checked my weight and my estimate of starting at 220 was wrong--I am actually starting at 212 (I don't own a scale...). I feel like I have already accomplished something since I am closer to my goal than I thought!!

Looking forward to keeping this up and reaching my goal!

    More later,
    Katherine :-)
