Hi everyone

  • Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum and look forward to meeting people with the same struggles so I was very pleased to find this place.

I've only been dieting right now for a month. My worst problem at this moment is, staying motivated to exercise. I'm very large and haven't exercised in years. I've been getting up every morning this week and just walking as much as I can. in the first 3 weeks I lost the 9 lbs without the exercise and this last week I tried really hard to add exercise and I lost nothing

So now I feel just so unmotivated. I guess I'm feeling a little sorry for myself lol.
I don't want to quit! I guess I just need to know how to motivate myself when things go wrong..
  • blossom,

Keep your eye on the end prize. Trust me it is worth it. You are going to have weeks where you lose nothing or even gain. But if you stick with it it will come off!!!

Its not an overnight deal. I went from 456 to 200 and it took 599 days, but I made it. You can do it, just keep the eye on the end prize.

Think of all the things you want to do, but can't because you're embarrased or just too big to do them.

Like me, I finally took a trip that I have wanted to for years, go to sporting events, took a flying lesson, can buy clothes at a normal store (much cheaper by the way), started golfing again, and went SKYDIVING!!! many more things on the agenda, and I will be able to do them because I have lost the weight.
  • Hi Blossom, and welcome! Thanks for sharing.

To be honest I think "motivation" is highly overrated. Yes, it is good when we feel motivated, but our feelings are fickle and will betray us. It has to be a *decision* we make and stick with it. Yes, the plateaus are the hard part and when we are so tempted to say "forget it" -- but the rewards are worth hanging in for.

Best of wishes for your success.
  • Borgie thank you so much for taking the time to encourage me I appreciate that. and Misti what you said makes perfect sense. We either do it or we don't, no matter how we are feeling. We can't feel motivated every moment of the day
thank you both and good luck on your continued weightloss
