From the Land of Obsession

Hello everyone! I'm a 48 year old woman who is currently obsessed with losing weight. This is actually a good thing as for many, many, MANY years, I didn't consider that I could actually be a success at losing weight and have many failed efforts in my wake to justify that notion. Here's a mini-version of my story.

I've always been fat. I was born fat. No, I'm not kidding, I was very close to 10 pounds when I was born. I have no conception of what it will be like to be a normal weight. I've tried diets and exercise and failed at them all. A few years ago, I mentally said a profanity towards any kind of weight loss effort and decided to eat whatever I wanted, when ever I wanted it and in whatever quantity I wanted. The end result was that I put 50 pounds on an already obese, over-stressed frame.

It came to a head this last January when I stepped on scales at a doctor's office and read the number 302. That slapped me upside the head with my foolishness. At that point in my life, I was having a lot of trouble walking due to severe arthritis in my right knee plus other problems with my ankles and feet. I was heading towards metabolic syndrome and everything that goes along with that. I realized rather forcefully that I was comitting slow suicide by food. I had a good bawl, a better talk with my husband and then I signed up for Weight Watchers that night, January 18th, 2012.

As of this past Sunday, I have lost 53 pounds. I stand at 5'7" and my current weight is 245. (Math geeks will note that 53 plus 245 doesn't equal 302. I adjusted my starting weight to 298 because I am anal retentive and figured out that my clothing weighs 4 pounds. And since I always weigh naked...)

I do online WW only as I'm really not an in-person meeting kind of gal. However, I am a internet addict so that program works well for me. The obsession part come into play with tracking. Not only do I track on WW Online, I also track on SparkPeople and just a few weeks ago, I started tracking on MyFitnessPal. Sick, eh? :dizzy:

Anyway, hello to all. I'm happy to have found this place and I hope to become an active member.

Welcome! I started on this site a few weeks ago. It is so motivational for me to see everyone going through the same stuff I am. I'm sure you'll love it too!
Good Luck!

Hi Garnet2727,

Firstly, congratulations on the weight loss you've already had!

I share some similarities to you in that nothing I have ever tried has worked. I've never lost and then gained back because well.... I've never found a way to be successful with losing.

I'm hoping this time I am able to get over the hump.

I hope the same for you!

Welcome and Best wishes!
