30 pounds in 10 weeks

Hello all! I'm Jessica!

I'm 5'11", currently weigh 230 and would ultimately like to weigh 170. I've never weighed less than 200 pounds in my adult life, and I'd really like to know what it feels like in "Onderland".

I want to lose at least 30 pounds by august. A lofty goal, I know, but my weight is holding me back!

As shallow as this may seem, I'd really like to be able to buy clothes in any store! WHO'S WITH ME??! ;)

xx

I would love to be able to shop in a regular store!! I got a pretty far way to go though.

My dream is to be able to walk into Top Shop and buy a really fashionable outfit that wouldn't look out of place on a catwalk, instead of having to always buy what fits.....

I know the feeling also..........but 10 weeks isnt alot of time you have to go pretty hard core, its took me 1 year to lose 30lbs

Admittedly i probably could have lost faster if my dedication and diet was tighter but its not always possible 100% of the time.

My advice would be dont put a number on it, go for it but dont be disheartened if you dont reach 30lbs any loss is good ....but the tape measure and photos tell the real story so get snapping :) GOOD LUCK

guapas!

@Livelaughlovesunshin - I totally empathize. Also, I'm really tall, so shopping in a regular store (especially in spain aka munchkin land) may be quite impossible haha

@Chloe - AGREED! And top shop only runs to a size 16/18UK (10/12US)! They have such great clothes though... especially dresses!!

@lucky8 - I agree with you - 10 weeks is very little time and assigning an arbitrary number doesn't necessarily reflect the work as well as the tape measure!! Great advice! (P.S. LOVE your profil pic)

THANKS FOR THE WARM WELCOME EVERYONE!!

I'm new here too and I know just how you feel. I have been over 200 pounds ever since I was 19. I want to be able to walk into any store and buy clothes. Especially bras!

I agree on just doing your best till August. I have at least 50 pounds several times before and I always get frustrated by a plateau and quit. I have decided this time to break my goals down into 10 pounds at a time and only count the dates when I've lost 5 pounds. I am not going to have a specific weigh in day. I think it doesn't matter as much how long it takes me to get there, just as long as I get there.

hey curvy nerd!!

The same has happened to me in the past, and I think it comes from the fact that since I've never been under 200 pounds as an adult (literally the last time I was in the 190s I was a freshman in high school), I don't believe it will actually happen.

I think you have an excellent plan - to make 5 small mini-goals of 10 pounds feels wayyy more attainable than 50!Ultimately I'd like to lose 60 pounds, so I think I may take your idea and run with it!!

I'll be routing for you!! let's keep in touch about our progress!

I think that's a great plan!! Summer is a good time to pick up outdoor exercise in sneaky ways. Best of luck!

I wish you nothing but success, but I'm concerned that you're setting yourself up for failure by attaching a timeline to your loss. Averaging 3 lb per week is extremely fast weight loss, and it may not be a realistic goal. What happens if in 7 weeks, you've lost 11 pounds. Would you consider that a failure and give up? I'd hate to see you get down on yourself for not meeting an arbitrary time goal.

10 pound mini-goals are great! That's how I've been successful in my weight loss. Every time I lose another 10 pounds, I reset my focus to the next marker. Right now my focus is on getting to (under) 200, but I don't care when it happens. As I've moved from mini-goal to mini-goal, it's taken me as few as 3 weeks (early in my loss) and as many as 11 weeks to lose 10 pounds. The key is that I didn't give up on it and have now lost more than 60. If I'd gotten wrapped up in losing X amount by Y date, I think I wouldn't be where I am today.

@Rintin - great suggestion! I'm thinking about joining a kickboxing class in the park!

@Blueberries - you are absolutely right, I think in general patience is not my strong suit... something to work on along the way! You're progress is truly inspirational and it's really nice to meet another tall lady in here!! Let's keep in touch! Best of luck with your next mini goal!
