New and excited to get started!

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum and I'm excited to look around and get to know everyone :) I'm a 33yr old sahm to my three kids and we live in MI. I have a family history of obesity and health problems but up to now it hasn't been a problem for me. However, in the past year I've gained quite a bit of weight and last month I ended up at the hospital twice for a blood clot. I think I gained five lbs just from being on bed rest ugh! I'm ready to work on losing the weight I've gained, do some major toning, drink more water, cut out soda (a big habit for me), and be more proactive about my health. I'm also a vegetarian, so that's one more thing to throw into the mix :)

My current weight is 164lbs, which is the most I've ever weighed, even including my pregnancies. My goal weight is 140lbs, which is a healthy weight for my age/height.

Hi veggiegirl123,

Hope you find useful information and motivation while you use this forum :)

Good luck with your goals.

I think if I can offer advice it would be that we are here to make life changing habits and what we should be aiming for is a lifestyle forever, not looking to hit a target. There will be ups and downs and many challenges along the way, but think of those challenges as a test to see if you have the strength to work your way through. You can do it because you will always have the power and control to do what you want.

Welcome! I am also from MI, a vegetarian, sahm with a goal weight of 140 :) You can do it! Other than being a vegetarian, what diet/ exercise plan do you plan to follow, if any? I have been calorie counting, but I'm not sure if it's working as fast as I would like. I may start south beach next week. I try to exercise at least 30min to 1 hr a day :).

I'm going to start counting calories and loosely follow the Slim Fast 3 2 1 plan. I've never counted calories before so we'll see how it goes! As for exercise-right now I don't do any so I'm going to aim for doing something everyday, even if it's just going out for a walk. I have a bike and I used to love riding it so I'd like to start biking a couple times a week. I also bought some dumbbells and I want to start toning my arms.
