Finding My Way
Hello Everyone!
I've always been tall and "big boned" so they say! Have been dieting all me life, I'm 62 now and have tried everything, some good successes that lasted for a year or more?? And lots of failures that have lasted for years and years. My highest weight was 337 pounds and I followed Atkins and slowly got my weight down to 280 - 290 and there I have been for close to 10 years. Developing Type 2 Diabetes 11 years ago and starting on the merry-go-round of pills, diet and exercise, finally Insulin (night time injection) 2 years ago. Other major health issue in 2006 was having my left hip replaced due to an accident, and 11 months later 2007 having my right knee replaced due to osteo arthritis. Fallen arches and pain in my feet made walking and exercise more difficult. Then I fell and broke 2 ribs... oh boy, that was hard just to breath. I slept in my recliner for 6 months and comfort ate and tried to beat the depression that hung on me. My husband was diagnosed with prostrate cancer and went through surgery and is clear for 2 years now. Now is my time to do some serious work on ME :D it's time! Sadly I started Jan 2012 at 306 pounds, desperate to reduce and improve my health! Especially reduce my need for insulin and the big hard belly from the injections. Did some Atkins because my body likes protein, I'm not a salad person or lots of fruits and lost 7 pounds. Atkins has worked before but I decided to do a cleanse and de-tox first, drinking "greens" :p and de-tox drops for 6 weeks. Started it March 26th - very strick eating No sugars, No starches of any kind, No root veggies, No prepared foods, sauces or drinks. Just lean proteins and seafood, green veggies, apples or oranges or strawberries, lots of water and herb teas. Finished the 6 weeks of de-tox and have lost 29 pounds :):) as of yesterday. Today I start slowly adding back to the fatter meats, cheese and yogurt, more veggies etc. going back to Atkins sort of. My Insulin is down to 10 units from 80 units - I am so pleased! I'm looking forward to getting to know people here and hopefully encourage others also. Sorry I rambled on and on. |

My mom, who has lost 75 lbs on a high protein diet, and has had 2 knee replacements due to osteo arthritis, has found that she can walk on a treadmill and do light weight training. Best of luck on your weightloss journey! |
