new and struggling

Hello! I'm sure that my story isn't uncommon. However, every time I read a magazine article or a story on the internet about a woman losing weight, it always seems as though they have A LOT more willpower than I do. I used to be an extremely disciplined eater (almost too much so), but in the past couple years - I'm anything but. It seems as though I start every day with the a firm goal, and by 4:00 in the afternoon, my resolve is soarly lacking! In my past, if I wanted to lose a few pounds, I would buckle down and do so pretty easily. Now, I'm 44, and more than ever before, it's really important that I get to my healthy weight to avoid aches and pains and more serious healthy issues. Uhggg.....it just feels so hard this time around. I'm hoping that being a part of 3FC will give me somewhere to go to strengthen my resolve and motivate me. :)

Hi

I only joined yesterday. I have a similar issue that I wake up motivated and ready to "do it this time". As the day passes though, my discipline seems to slip.

Yesterday though, because I had the alternative option, I jumped on the computer and read a few posts in the afternoon - and guess what? - it worked! I didn't nibble out of afternoon habit.

I hope you find all the support and encouragement you need here.

michellelilly52~ Planning has been the key for me. I have started and re-started my weight loss journey many times, but I really think that this is the time!
First thing to do, go through your fridge and cupboards and toss any foods that will tempt you. If your family/roommates have a problem with this, spell it out for them, this is what you need to do to get healthy and they should think about joining you in eating healthier! If it's a big problem, have them put tempting foods somewhere you won't look. Second, have a detailed grocery list and try to shop only once, maybe twice a week (for produce and meat). By only going a couple times a week, and sticking to my list, I've avoided picking up extra food I don't need. Also, make sure you're not hungry when you shop...
When you get the munchies, but you know you're not truly hungry, go for a walk. Think about what you want to do when you're smaller and how much more you want to be thin than have an evil snack. Gum and mints can also help take cravings away, I always have a pack of gum in my car to keep myself from wanting something on the way home.

This is an awesome place to get advice, so you've made a great choice by joining this site!
