Hi From The UK

Hello :)

My names Sam, i'm 37 years old and i live in the UK. I'm a comfort eater and have had a weight problem since the age of 5.
2 weeks ago i was diagnosed with diabetes, high cholestrol, Anemia and also
a problem with my liver due to taking Carbamazepine for over 20 years, i take them along with Amitriptyline for severe clinical depression, OCD and personality disorder type c. I'm currently 23 stone 7 pounds (329 pounds) and my fitness level is zero. I have joined this forum in desperation really because of my situation. I am having blood tests tomorrow to determine my blood sugar levels and a trip to my doctor to talk about my depression tablets. I want to change them because i do not like taking them anymore because i know that they are damaging my liver. I don't think that they have been working for a long time anyway.
I have to admit that i am very scared because i know i comfort eat and i have been doing so for years. It scares me that i will not be able to change my eating habits or motivate myself into doing some form of exercise. I lost my mom on Dec 30 2011 and i can't explain how much pain and grief we have been through. I have been comfort eating so badly the past 3 months, now all this as happened with my health it's just so overwhelming.
I do have a plan set out in my mind of what i need to do and i want to start some kind of journal to track my progress. My head is spinning though, i have a long long battle ahead. I guess i wanted to join the forum to read other people stories and for some inspiration from people who have been there or are going through the same thing right now. Any help or advice from anyone would be very much appreciated. I guess i got the first step out of the way admitting that i have a problem with food. I know if my health problems had not come along i would not be here now. I dread to think what could have happened in the future, what is happening now is bad enough though. Anyway that is it.

:)

First, I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my father when I was only 22 years old and it was one of the worst things I have ever experienced.
I hope you and your doctor can help address your health issues. I suffer from depression/anexity also and have been on meds forever. I want to try and get off them too but am afraid.
If you are not sure what food plan you are going to follow, there is a ton of information about many different food plans on this site. Pick a plan that fits in your lifestyle and you can follow long term. I chose calorie counting because it is free and flexible. It allows me to eat almost anything I wanted as long as it fits within my calorie range for the day and there are ton of free apps out there to help you track your food.
Give up the sugary drinks and drink lots and lots of water.
Incorporate some exercise into your weekly routine. You do not have to join an expensive gym try to walk more, use the stairs more, download videos off of YouTube or Hulu.com to work out to. There are a lot of things you can to do with spending a ton of money.
Lastly, if you have a bad meal, a bad day, heck, a bad food week. Do NOT let this be a reason to throw in the towel. Get back on track at the next meal. You can do this!!!
Best of luck to you!

Hi Songbird74, welcome to 3FC! I'm sorry you've been having such a rough time. It sounds like you've got a lot going on. WTG for being proactive in dealing with your health issues! :carrot: There are a lot of calorie counters on here.

I always thought it was backwards, how we finally find the motivation or at least the want to change once something bad has happened. We all do it and it sucks, but I'm glad you've decided to make a change for the better for yourself. I'm sure your mother is proud of you, wherever she is. :) This forum is truly amazing and everyone here makes me believe that miracles really can happen. I look forward to seeing you around. Big hugs from New York. (:
