Went from 120 to 210...the numbers played musical chairs

  • Hello everyone! I am new to this weight loss forum. I thought being able to share and see what other people were going through would be beneficial in my weight loss journey. Back in the good ol' days of college I was about 120 pounds. I was a size 6 and loved shopping. Fast forward a few years- graduating college, joining the real world, working at a job that is stressful, getting married, financial problems, and going back to school...over the course of a few years I kept gaining and gaining...and ignoring it because drowning my sorrows in a Baskin Robbins Oreo Cookie Milkshake (I know my addiction) was easier than looking in the mirror and going "holy **** what did I do to myself?" I am now a size 16-18 and weigh 210 pounds. I joined weight watchers 3 weeks ago and have lost 6.5 pounds so far. Its just frustrating because I have so much to lose and I feel like by only losing small amounts at a time eventually I'm going to give into temptation of emotional eating and gain everything back plus some. I don't need to weigh what I did at 21, but at 28 I would like to be in the 130's so I can hopefully fit back into the size 6's and 8's that have been collecting dust in my closet. Maybe then the thought of going shopping won't send me into a panic...you can only buy the same shirts in XXL so many times without going crazy.

Sorry if this was a bit on the rambling side....apparently my mind was going faster than I could type! Hope you enjoyed this and thanks for allowing me to be a part of this group!
  • Welcome!

This is a great place to learn from experience and get support. Pretty much everyone is friendly and helpful.

I've pretty much always been overweight or obese from the age of 10 on, but my high weight and yours are very similar. You can most definitely lose weight, especially if you've been a normal weight before. You've eaten the way you need to in order to be a healthy weight, and you can do it again.

Good luck! We're glad to have you!
  • Thanks for the welcome! I'm about 5 foot 3 inches so I'm packing all this weight onto a short frame. In my next life I will ask to come back tall lol! There is such a huge difference in what a person looks like with an extra 80 pounds added on. We have w Wheaten Terrier and he weighs about 40 pounds. I look at him and realize I am carrying him and one of his Wheaten friends around with me wherever I go...which sounds tiring. Thats a lot of extra weight and I'm hoping to be able to let the two Wheatens run free without me carrying them
  • Hi and welcome!

I've also just joined. I have tried to lose weight on my own before and was never very successful, so I'm hoping that joining a community of people going through the same thing will help! Everyone here is very supportive.

Re: the emotional eating....it happens. Just remember that your day is not "ruined" if you give in to temptation. We all slip sometimes.

    Good luck!
