Hey! Newbie here.

  • I just found this forum today and I signed up immediately. I have had issues with weight since high school, but my real problems came with my first pregnancy. I gained 72 lbs and reached 199. I only lost about 35 lbs and when I was pregnant the second time I gained it all back. I was able to diet down to 140 a couple of times, but it was never permanent. When I got married to my 2nd husband I had gotten down to 160 and I was so happy. However I decided I wanted to take care of him, and I did it by making him tons of yummy comfort food. A couple of years and a move later and I weighed in at 246.6 pounds. This was on June 25th, 2011. I got my butt in gear and started walking 5 days a week. By September I was down 31 lbs. Then one day my knee started killing me. I couldn't put any pressure on it what so ever. Turns out I had an overuse injury. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and I finally was able to walk for more than 15 minutes without pain.

Luckily I had only gained a couple of pounds during that time, but I was itching and ready to start working out again. I have lost 6 pounds in the past 2 weeks and I am so motivated to get back on track. I still have a lot to lose.

I am looking forward to meeting others that are in the same boat so we can encourage each other.

    So long for now!
    Ellie
  • Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on your weightloss success to date! I am glad that your knee is healing, that sounds ouchie!
    Best of luck to you!
  • Elle, welcome, glad to have you join us. I suggest you look for a Challenge or Support group to join; small check-in groups make it easier to connect, get involved, and be accountable. We have groups centering around specific diet plans such, themes, or age groups, so find one that inspires you and just post to join!
  • ELLIE ~ yes, sure know how you feel, as someone who injured both of my knees; they have been slowly healing as I focused on light exercises (stretches, toning, flexes, Tai Chi, yoga, walking, etc); and my eating plan, which is so good that I could stay on it for life.

I eat healthy foods/dishes/snacks that we love, so I can stick with this long-term. If I make a mistake, I just keep on going: working on the next meal or snack, or day & week ... one small change AAT, one-step-at-a-time, one-day-at-a-time ...

This is a great place with wonderful people and lots of support; look around and jump right in wherever you like, and enjoy yourself here ...
  • Welcome You will definitely find those of us who are in your shoes and understand what you're dealing with. Congrats on getting started!
  • Thank you all for the wonderful welcome. I looked through the boards a bits more yesterday and found a challenge to join. I am looking forward to getting involved!
