Intro

Hello all,

Like many people, I have tried for years to lose weight. I'm up and then I'm down, but then I get frustrated and end up gaining back all the weight, My knees hurt, I have bursitis in my hip, I am a liver cancer survivor, have high blood pressure, but amazingly, no diabetes yet. I cannot do low carb/high protein because I suffer from chronic kidney failure. I do love my carbs, and do not eat enough veggies. Have considered WLS but haven't made that step yet. My husband is very overweight WITH diabetes and we have to do something. Any ideas on which diet plan would be best for us? He can do Atkin's, but I can't. Please help!

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum! Wow have you survived some serious health problems.
There is a ton of information about many different food plans on this site. Pick a plan that fits in your lifestyle and you can follow long term. I chose calorie counting because it is free and flexible. It allows me to eat almost anything I wanted as long as it fits within my calorie range for the day and there are ton of free apps out there to help you track your food. Give up the sugary drinks and drink lots and lots of water.
Incorporate some exercise into your weekly routine. You do not have to join an expensive gym try to walk more, use the stairs more, download videos off of YouTube or Hulu.com to work out to. There are a lot of things you can to do with spending a ton of money.
Lastly, if you have a bad meal, a bad day, heck, a bad food week. Do NOT let this be a reason to throw in the towel. Get back on track at the next meal. You can do this!!!
Best of luck to you!

Hi

Hi my name is Diana, I had the hardest time registering here. I put down the wrong email address and I was waiting and waiting for a confirmation email which of course would never come lol. I had to create a new user name. Some one with the email address I used has got about five activation email now LOL. A little bit about myself. I just turned 51 on January 1 . I am a huge Enrique Iglesias fan. In fact that was part of my motivation to lose weight. Back in 2008 He was having a concert. I was supposed to get a meet and greet from the fan club I belonged to. I went on a strict diet of 300 calories a day I exercised two hours a day and lost 39 pounds in a little over two months. I went from 150 Lbs to 111 ( I am only little over 5 feet tall) I went from a size 14 to a size 4 and 2 in some clothes. In fact people were commenting that I was too thin, imagine that ME too thin. I had not been this weight since I was 14 years old Well I went to the concert the precinct of the fan club gave the meet and greet to her friend instead of me I was very upset but enjoyed the concerts anyway. I got rid of all my fat clothes Well in less then a month I was up to 119 then bigger and bigger and now I then biggest I have ever been in my life. Size 16 . My bra size use 36C now it is 40 DD, I can not believe I am this big. I had to buy all new clothes and underwear I don't know what I way I am terrified to step on the scale I started again on the 300 calorie diet. I can't not exercise like I did because I sprained my ankle So I will not know how much I lose Maybe at my age 111 is unrealistic, I will try for 125. My problem is I have eat very little to I have gone weeks on only 100-200 hundred calories a day. If i go over 300 calories I feel I am ruining my diet.
Sorry if if bored you with my story

Welcome to the forum!
Are you really only eating 300 calories a day? That is way too low, no one should eat less than 1200 calories a day. You may see an initial weight loss on those low calories but as you experienced you will quickly gain that weight back.
I urge you to find a realistic and healthy eating plan to follow. Losing weight is not a race. We need to make eating healthier and moving more a lifestyle change to be successful.
I wish you all the best!
