Hello

  • Hello.

I'm never quite sure what to say when I introduce myself on a forum. When meeting someone for the first time in person you can gauge whether they're still paying attention or wishing you'd shut up so they can wander off to something a little less obnoxious or maybe even something just a little more shiny.

I love people with ADHD. Or as it was once renamed by a coworker "AD-Oh, squirrel!" I do not have ADHD. I'm just a spazz.

I do however have a few problems most of you are probably familiar with and one that I know for certain we have in common. Let's start there.

    I'm fat. Moving on...

I suffer from depression (dysthymia and SAD)
    I have stage II hypertension
I was diagnosed with PCOS but I moved and my new doctor told me that we're going to concentrate on my blood pressure first... So for now, I have pseudo-PCOS... ?
My husband and I have been trying to conceive for almost three years now
I'm actually very shy and socially awkward.

I want to lose weight because I want to have children and I want to be able to run around and play with them. I want to be alive when they graduate college and I want to have grandbabies.
  • Welcome to the forum!
Do you know what food plan you are going to follow? There is a ton of information on this site about various food plans. Choose one that fits in your lifestyle and you can follow long term. I chose calorie counting because it was free and flexible. I am able to eat just about anything I want as long as it stays within my calorie limits for the day.
Try moving more. Doesn't mean you have to run out and join a gym. Just try walking more, maybe rent or download some workout videos and use those at home. Get some light arm weights and use them while watching TV. Exercise does help with weight loss but I will tell you from experience that regular exercise will help with your depression.
    Best of luck to you!
  • Thank you, NEMom.

I was regularly going to the gym and on a 1200 calorie diet as recommended by my doctor but it made me miserable and after two weeks I stopped. I lost 10lbs and it stayed off for about three months after so I know that it was working but it was too drastic a change.

I plan to start with a 1800 calorie a day diet with 20 minutes on the elliptical at least 3 days a week.

If, after six months of diet and exercise (being honest with myself and adjusting it accordingly,) I haven't lost 30lbs I'm going to opt for gastric bypass which has already been suggested by my doctor.
