I just found this site, and am so happy I did! It appears I will be needing to have some surgery done in a few months, and I'm determined to get myself into the best condition I can. I look forward to learning from you all how it's done. I bought myself the book years ago, but looks like I tossed it and will be needing another. Is there any one that is recommended over another?

Welcome, stillcool! I don't have any book recommendations (I haven't used one myself), but I'm sure that others here will be able to recommend some good ones for you. I did want to say though - I think it's a great idea that you're planning to get in shape before your surgery! I had an emergency abdominal surgery back in June after I'd lost about 70 lbs, and I truly believe that my recovery was much easier and more rapid as a result of the weight loss and fitness level I'd achieved.
