From a calorie standpoint, how do I know what is enough?
I consistently log what I eat on livestrong.com. On average, I workout 5 times per week. I do strength-training a minimum of twice a week and try to do 3x. I eat VERY healthy but the scale doesn't move as aggressively as I would like to see.
I eat VERY little white carbs. Most of my carbs come from veggies and fruits. I have started limiting my fruite intake. When I do, it is mostly berries and apples. For the most part, I eat poultry and LOTS of fish. Below are my calorie and exercise entries this week: Mon consumed:1,445 burned:837 net calories:608 ____ Tue consumed:1,279 burned:677 net calories:602 ____ Wed consumed:1,552 burned:788 net calories:764 ____ Thu consumed:1144 burned:1098 net calories:46 My weigh-in day is next Tuesday (switched to monthly as my daily weigh-ins were driving me nutts!). I struggle with knowing if I am eating enough OR eating too much. Any and all suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. |
I'd say too little--but that's just my opinion.

How long have you been working on your weight loss? 52lbs is an amazing loss!
You can google "How many calories should I be eating" and it will come up with calculators you can use to determine how many calories you should eat to lose weight. I would guess that you should get eating at least 1400-1500 calories based on your current height and weight, especially with the exercise you have been doing. I know it is frustrating when we do not lose as quickly and as much as we want but all we can do is keep at it. You have made great progress! Keep it up. |
Thanks
thanks for the responses. I am going to see if I can work with a nutritionist. For the amount of effort I am giving this....I should be getting much higher results. (at least, I think so!) :-)

Hey there! Welcome!
Couple of quick things 1. It's impossible to know how many calories you burn from exercise. I wouldn't even try to figure it out. Just bank those as extra contributions towards your deficit, whatever they may be. See the sticky thread in this forum on the subject: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/exer...g-methods.html. 2. Are you weighing your food? Or eyeballing/measuring it? It's awesome that you have cut way down on sugars and white carbs. I did the same thing first and the scale didn't move. It all comes down to calories- you could be eating amazingly healthy food but still TOO MUCH of it. If you are eyeballing or measuring your food, you could be overestimating by a few hundred calories a day, enough to slow or stall weight loss. 3. What do you mean by "not moving as aggressively as you'd like it"? Looks like your weight loss so far has been great!! 1-2 lbs a week is the upper end of what most folks lose, with 1-3 lbs a month very common. Are you in either of these ranges? If so, it sounds like you are right on track! good luck :) :) |
