Hi all! A fat chick checks in from Southern California!
Glad to be here! I just found this forum after researching "The Belly Fat Cure" ... funny, I never thought of being fat as a disease with a cure. Not to make light of dealing with addiction, but I always thought of being fat like being an alcoholic; you're never cured -- rather you are always an addict, but you learn to make different choices.
I'm doing Atkins currently, but I'm open to other things. I had a great deal of success on Atkins, and I take comfort in the familiar. I'm also working out (go Zumba and TurboKick!) a couple of days a week -- sweating can be fun, but so can standing in the back of the class, laughing with your friends at what complete idiots you all resemble!
We have an active group of Atkins folks in our "Low Carb Lifestyle" forum - check it out!
We also have groups by age range (20-somethings, 30-somethings, and etc), and a lot of smaller challenges and groups, so look around, find one spot or MANY where you feel at home, and get to posting!
@mandalinn82: Thanks for the warm welcome! I love your profile pic -- you look just like Carrie Anne Moss in "The Matrix"! I love her -- an ultimate kick-a$$ chick!
@Lovely: I'm concerned about the zombies. Is there a survival kit I could purchase online? I must know more!
@Hilarylove: Yay for someone from SoCal! I have to confess to another SoCal-er that I'm loving the icky weather and nasty June Gloom we've got goin' on right now. Working out in the afternoon is still nice and cool. How about you?
@Lovely: Can I just say how impressed I am by how much literature is out there for not only the living, but the recently deceased and reanimated as well? I mean, So Now You're a Zombie: A Handbook for the Newly Undead. Need I say more?
I nearly died laughing (Hey, then I could use that "so now you're a zombie" book) when I saw that CDC actually had a preparation page for zombie outbreaks!
I know it's a bit tongue-in-cheek, but still. Very amusing!
Lovely - Tongue in cheek, but brilliant. It got so many hits that it brought down their servers. I don't know that anything has ever been as effective in getting people to think about disaster preparedness!
@mandalinn82 and Lovely: Ever checked out Snopes.com? Chock full of fun information! Plus, if you search "zombie apocalypse", you can see the link to the CNN story. I'm too new to post the link.
@milmin2043: Thanks for posting! I love that you're a runner. I used to love running when I was a kid. I would get really red-faced but I still sprinted when I hit the last lap around my elementary school. But when middle school came and I became VERY aware of the opposite sex, I stopped running because of my face. Seriously, I'm a tomato for HOURS!!! Even now, I go to TurboKick a couple times a week with some girlfriends, and I'm red even after cold showers and LOTS of water.
Red faces aside, do you have any suggestions for those of us who'd like to start a running program? Even shoe recs would be welcome -- what do you like? Many thanks in advance!
