New Chickie on the Block
Hey everyone!
I'm "Rainbowgirl" (aka Elle) and I found this site several years ago but forgot about it until yesterday when I was looking for something diet-related. I live just outside of Vancouver, B.C. and I'm 25 years old. I've always had an issue with my weight, right from around age 15 onwards when I became extremely sedentary due to severe bullying and abuse at school. Sucky, but it's over with and I'm continually struggling to lose the 70 or so pounds I'd really like gone. I lost 30 pounds in 2006 during a media weight loss contest (which I won and went to Brazil for 2 weeks as a reward) but the weight has crept back on. I suffered a pulmonary embolism in November 2009 that almost took my life and was caused partially because of my obesity and the birth control pill I was on. Last November I ended up with left lobe pneumonia which I'm still currently recovering from (infection is gone but the cough and wheezies remaind) and that is also being attributed to my weight and my history of asthma (the lengthy recovery). I know I need to lose weight. There's nothing healthy with where I am so I'm hoping that with the support of all the fabulous people here, I'll be able to take charge and control! I'm currently 5'7 and 260 pounds of unawesomeness. Some of the positives are I don't eat a lot of junk food (Coca Cola is my addiction and it's harder to quit than smoking), but I do overeat, especially when I'm at work (evening shift worker; 3:40-11:40pm) and then I don't eat much, if at all, on the weekends. Another positive is that I have a 10 month old Labrador retriever and so I have to walk her quite a bit (although lately it's been pouring rain and cold so not really 'walking' weather). I also have an Xbox 360 with Kinect and "My Shape: Fitness Evolved" which is an excellent work out but I haven't touched it since January due to the breathlessness caused by the recovering pneumonia. Other positives are that I love vegetables and will eat just about anything really, although between 2 jobs (full time and a part time at-home job) I have limited times to actually make food and thus tend to grab or throw together whatever I can, or just go without. So, anyway, I'm here for inspiration, motivation, and a community. Sorry for the lo-o-o-ng post! :o |
