Hi Everyone!

I've been reading a few of these threads for a while now. I currently weigh 148 pounds at 5'5''. My brother's wedding is in June and it's about time I look good in a few pictures. I weighed 130 pounds 6 months ago. Gaining 18 pounds over 6 months is clearly ridiculous, so I'm stopping this nonsense now. All of my excess weight is stored in my thighs/buttocks. What makes it all worse is that I'm a medical student (an extremely stressed one at that :P). All we do is study...I never move at all but I can try to squeeze in 20 mins at the gym daily. I'm trying to decide what the best diet for me would be. Any suggestions? I think plain old calorie counting would be good but I wonder how accurate fitday is. Do I really only get 930 calories a day to reach my goal weight of 120 pounds? That seems excessive...

Anyway, if you have any advice or words of encouragement, I would be very grateful! I really love this site and I'm so glad that I registered :) All of you are awesome.

Thank you,
Kelly

Welcome to the most awesome place on the web!!

930 is wayyyyy too low. Never, ever, ever go below 1200, mama. Ever. Puts body into survival mode. Wouldn't want you to hold on to fat and slow down that metabolism. Create a greater calorie deficit with workouts.

Look into Basal Metabolic Rate and Active metabolic rate. Tells you how many calories you burn while at rest. Mine is about 1750, so I go for 1300-1500 calories a day and shoot for at least 250 calories burned during a workout.

HTH, Kelly.

Thank you for the response! I'm already loving the best place on the web.

Sounds wonderful. I'm going to aim for 1200 calories. I really will try so hard to exercise.

Welcome Kelly Glad to have you join us. My advice is to look for a Support group, Chat, or Challange to join; small groups make it easier to get connected. Most sub-forums have groups covering almost every need, find one that inspires or motivates you and just post to join.
