Newbie

I am new to this site. I am 31 years old and live in Massachusetts. I am 170lbs, my goal is 135lbs. I am aiming to get to 160 first, I'll take it 10lbs at a time.
I tried WW years ago, but honestly, I suck at calorie counting. I don't eat any packaged foods, everything I eat is from scratch without preservatives, additives, chemicals, etc. This means that whenever I want to figure out the calories of the meal, I have to add the calories together of ALL the ingredients, then divide by servings. Or eat really really boring and simple meals. So I am concentrating on portion control, reducing sugar and simple carbs (bye bye white potatoes...) and not eating at night. I have been exercising 3 times a week, both cardio and strength training and doing yoga 2-3 times a week. I am on week 6. Starting weight was 175. I am down from a size 14 to a 12. Why does it seem like I should have lost more? It makes me want to severely restrict my diet, but I don't want to crash...

Welcome Val, Glad to have you join us. It sounds like you have made a good start. My advice is to look for a Support group, Chat, or Challange to join; small groups make it easier to get connected. Most sub-forums have groups covering almost every need, find one that inspires or motivates you and just post to join.

Hi Val!

:welcome:

I know how you feel I initially wanted to lose weight when I was at 180 - but pending a break up and the unconscious decision to lose myself in food- I am at 215. I am 25 and from Chicago myself. I too cook at home, and have not tried the calorie counting because I don't eat much packaged food either. Have you tried measuring your waist instead of looking to the scale for results? I have seen many times around here that while the scale may not indicate a loss you may find you have lost inches in your arms, legs, or waist instead. I would not recommend a sever restriction on your diet, though it may work to get the scale to go down you may also be depriving yourself of nutrients you need! BTW I am totally happy for you as far as the size drop goes - I am hoping to be fitting in a size 12 myself one of these days! I am jealous, but in a way that helps me kick myself back in gear! :)

I hope you get results you want! And welcome to the site!!
