Reaching out and saying hello

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself here!

I am ready to get my act together and start taking care of myself. I am 39 and live in NY with my husband and our cats. :) I just got a job promotion (I work in health care) and have made a deal with myself to get my weight and health under control. I figure, I'm starting a new chapter in my career and now is also the time to start a new chapter in my personal life as well.

I have about 100 lbs to lose. I had my annual physical last week and it turns out my cholesterol and blood pressure are running high. My NP was going to put me on blood pressure meds, but then she got real with me and said, "You know, this IS something you can fix with exercise and diet changes". We agreed to give it three months and reassess then.

This was the wake up call I needed. I have a family history of hypertension, heart disease and diabetes and I know if I don't take control of myself now, I am bound to be put on meds and face serious health problems in the near future.

About 10 years ago, I lost close to 50 lbs by exercising. I wasn't as overweight then as I am now, but I did it before and I know I can do it again. I imagine this time around is going to be harder, so I come here to share and receive some extra support and inspiration. :) I look forward to getting to know you and I thank you for reading my intro.

Welcome, Glad to have you join us. My advice is to look for a Support group, Chat, or Challange to join; small groups make it easier to get connected. Most sub-forums have groups covering almost every need, find one that inspires or motivates you and just post to join.

Welcome to 3FC! I know you'll find the support and encouragement you need and want here. This is a great site!

Like you, my main wake-up call was my bloodwork where a few years of high normal finally tipped over to the high side for real. I'd taken off about 80 pounds when I had my next blood panel donw and my numbers were the very best NSV (non-scale victory) I could have hoped for - they had all moved solidly down in to the normal range. It was such a great feeling knowing i was really taking care of myself.

You can do it too!!! Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcomes and supportive words!

I'm going to check out the challenges section....looking to get in on one of the monthly ones in the 100 lbs subforum. Getting a bit of a late start and February is such a short month...but the sooner the better.
