hating high school

hey there :)
i joined this website after browsing through different threads everyday.
it seems like the kind of place to meet people who will keep me motivated
ive tried loosing weight multiple times. i always end up putting my body into
starvation mode and loosing nothing.
living at home with my folks (as im only 16) they dont buy me diet foods or make me special dinners, ive got to eat what they eat or i get nothing. so dieting has always been hard, they dont usually buy fresh fruit either :/

i currently weigh 146 pounds..which in my world is 67 kilos. im hoping to get down to 130-127 pounds (60-58 kilos) but im worried ill loose motivation and stop dieting/excersizing and all that again :(

Hello - I am 48. I didn't really like high school, either. Let me tell you this: life only improves after high school, it really does. All that glorification of high school in popular culture? BS!

Drink lots of water, exercise . . . what kind of shape are your parents in? Healthy? Needing to trim down themselves?

You are sensible to recognize that extreme dieting doesn't work. Aim for a pound or two per week, which you can do through portion size and exercise (they rhyme!). I would also encourage you to find more teens on this site. I have found this site to be very supportive and helpful.

Good luck!

:welcome2:

I have noticed that not only are teens much more weight-conscious than we were but that they don't seem to have a good understanding of nutrition and think that starvation and "diet food" is the only way to lose weight.

It is great that you have come here so young....as many of us older and more experienced members can provide much better and healthier info and advice.

To begin with, you NEED to eat in order to lose weight consistently and be able to keep it off. And you NEED to eat enough to maintain your health. Destroying your health by starving yourself of nutrients is an unreasonable price to pay to be thin. You will realize this as you get older and realize the huge toll it can take on your body.

You need to learn how to eat and what to eat in order to lose weight in a healthy way and then to keep it off. You don't need your parents to buy you "diet food" necessarily. You just need real food and healthy food....and this includes a whole array of things, many that you probably already have at home. Most of what you need to do this is probably already available to you there. You just need to learn how to utilize them and HOW to do it successfully.

When I compare the thoughts I had as a teen to what I've learned and now realize...I just shake my head.
But it's not necessary to have unhappy teen years due to your weight. You CAN learn how to be successful the healthy way here.

Hey there! I'm new, as well. And perhaps we can go about this together! I'm 17, and have the same issues as you. My family buys healthy-ish food, but dinner is dinner, no choices really. There I know I need to focus on portion control. But if you ever want to talk, about weight loss, or school, I'd be happy to with you!
And I know being on this site with adults will really help me, as well. They've been there and done that, and understand the system more than we do. So I think having a site like this is great for teens like us.
