So happy to have found this!

Hi all! I'm Keri. I'm 26 and about a third of the way into my goal.

I've been heavy since 8th grade and while married to my exhusband I gain a whopping 50lbs in a little over a year. I left my husband last February and that is when I made the decision to DO SOMETHING about my weight. It's been 9 months and I've lost 60lbs so far.

Starting weight: 340lbs

Current weight: 280lbs

Goal weight: 150lbs

I know this is going to be a long journey. I'm in it for the long haul. The first 60lbs came off relatively easily. I have plateaued this last month. I'm flirtin with the high 270's and it's so frustrating!!!!

Only 130 more pounds to go. I have a mini-goal to be 230 by June of 2011. I think I can do 50lbs in the next 8 months!

My current diet is a vegan diet. I'm not a fan of meat and I don't tolerate dairy very well. I don't exercise as much as I want to as of late. I go to school full time and work part time. I can't afford a gym. I just need the motivation to get moving again. I can walk/run/hike on the hills nearby, but I've just been unmotivated. That's my biggest challenge lately.

Any tips?

Thanks for reading and thank you for sharing this journey with me.

Thank you so much! I'm just so stoked to be out of the 300's. I told myself I would never get above 300 and I got all the way to 340! I was miserable.

I really hope to find good advice, tips and motivation here!

Hi Keri! :welcome3: Congratulations on losing 60 pounds!!!! That's amazing!!! I think finding a fun workout you like makes it so much easier. I've walked, ran, done the elliptical machine, pilates. They were ok, but nothing I actually enjoyed. I recently purchased Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred and I love it! It's about 20 minutes long and I feel great after doing it. It's not boring, it gets your blood pumping and heart rate up. That may be something to look into. I'm not sure if you have Netflix, there are many workout videos on there you might try to see if you like them. Best of luck to you! :)

Good job on the loss so, you should be proud! And good luck on the rest. :) Come join us in the 20-somethings thread if you haven't already. There's a thread in there for others who are trying to get out of the 280s.

As for the motivation to exercise, perhaps you could try planning out a workout schedule for the week/month, and by the end of the week/month, if you've stuck to your plan, you could reward yourself somehow? Just something small like a new book or shirt or something that could help keep you going even when you don't feel motivated. If you just work to make it a habit, it will get easier to do over time.

Thank you so much everyone!
KenzideRhae, that's great advice. I should start planning it out weekly. Right now I have no routine and I need to get my metabolism kick-started again.

You've already had awesome progress, don't get discouraged! Even if you're not seeing big results with the scale number b/c of plateau, you are still reinforcing those healthy habits you've picked up.

If you're strapped for cash, try the library for workout DVDs. You can try a variety of workouts, and then if you find something you really like you can buy it. Also, you can find stuff on Craigslist & thrift stores. If you find something you like at the library, you might be able to find DVDs cheap that way. Amazon is a decent way to get DVDs too - you can find used DVDs there pretty reasonably priced too.

Also, does your school have any place to work out for free? Maybe you can find a workout buddy too through your school if you want one.
