Hello out there!!!

Hello to everyone!!!
So I guess my story isn't different from anyone elses.....I guess because it is happening to me it is soooo depressing:( I have always had issues with my wieght, but I am certainly at my heaviest!I am completely
uncomfortable in my skin!!! I am constantly bloated, full of heartburn, and many other not cool tummy issues:(
But anyways.....God I hate working out! It is boring and I feel like crap when I am done....probably because I don't do it on the reg!
And food....oh food, glorious food.I am sorry but I simply do not buy into the whole look at it as fuel thing!!! What bull****e!!!Is anyone really raised to look at food that way? I think not...
Food is comforting, it conjurs up beautiful memories, it makes celebrations memorable. How does someone look at Food and say"yup that just keeps my **** going..."WHATEVER!!!!
So basically I need help. In a perfect world I would just pray and wake up and all this marshmallow would be gone!!! Or I could just pay someone to do it for me.
Or I could just not eat and that is typically what I would do....apparently that doesn't work.
SOMEONE HELP ME!!!!!!

Hey there Zombie. Welcome to the board. One thing that helped me look at food differently is just realizing that feeling better at a lower weight is so much more gratifying than the food ever was. I had horrible heartburn too, not long ago, but just by loosing a little weight that has gotten a lot better.

Look at all the different programs that people have used to great success around here, and find one that you think will work.

For me, calorie counting has worked great because I can have my grains and treats as long as it fits into my calorie count.

Take those feelings you have and let them motivate you! Best wishes :)

I'm new to it all too..... Other than when I was pregnant, I am at my heaviest. (but I am only 11lbs from what I was when I was 9 months pregnant :( )

I'm 4 days into the IP diet and I think I'm doing pretty good.... I too hate working out but I LOVE to walk.... I never have time to work out...

Hang in there and good luck with your goal.

PJay

Hi Cupcake! First of all, take a deep breath. You've found a wonderful place full of great ideas and support. It has helped me immensely and I come here almost daily. Look around and get some ideas. Come up with a plan that you can work for life. If you are like me you have tried many ways and lost/gained a bunch. I finally realized I had to change the way I was eating. I still allow myself the things that aren't the healthiest (but that I love), but in reasonable amounts, along with the better foods I've begun to eat. I've found ways to cook things that I love that cut calories and fat.

I felt like a big, bloated bag when I finally gave in and started changing. I never want to feel that way again and I don't plan to.

Most importantly, I found an exercise program that works for me. That was the key for me. I didn't like it at first but, believe it or not, I actually look forward to it now. I feel better than I have felt in years, maybe in my entire life.

In a nutshell, here is what I do: Track calories, drink lots of water, eat lots of fiber, cut down on fat and processed foods and exercise.

It takes time to adjust to all the changes you will need to make. But it is worth the time and effort. You've started your journey. Keep on going.

So You're telling us your an emotional eater? welcome to the club! Yes you are right in our Culture and life we are raised to celebrate and comfort with food. It's a way of life for people. So question, how is this working for you? It's not, which is why you are here. It's why we are all here. We must learn that, Yes we can celebrate and live, we just replace how we do it now. And we do adopt some of those philosophys that food is meant to fuel our body (As God intended) and in the meantime I will lead a healthy life. Plus guess what you'll still get to treat yourself to cake at a birthday party or maybe a pizza at the superbowl party! There are fantastic books out there for the emotional eater! I too was a HUGE (literally, lol) emotional eater, so I totally get it!

Thank you all for your encouragment!!!! Wow was it cool to get up this morning and see all of the responses!
I am new to forums and pretty much anything like this on a computer....so what do yall recommend from here as far as groups go?

DexterMom 11-12-2010 05:33 PM

Groups depend on what your interested in learning more about generally. I think calorie counter is great. There are also great age group/lifestyle group boards. Just explore! You'll figure out what you like.

One thing too I'd look into something you can do that you enjoy that gets your heart rate up. If you love to swim, go swimming, bike riding, go bike riding, dancing, take a dance class, etc. Exercise doesn't have to be running on a treadmill or using a stationary bike :) Doing something you like will make your more likely to stick to it :)

I'd recommend finding some sort of physical activity that you do like to do. I always hated the idea of "exercise", but I loved to walk, dance, and swim, so even though those activities count as exercise, they feel like I'm just out having some fun.

As for the food, it's definitely a process changing your thinking around it. A lot of us weren't raised to simple look at it as fuel, and that's part of the reason we're here, probably. ;) And just not eating never works because then your body flips out and you just end up binging later to make up for the starvation anyway. Just try and be open-minded and try a few different approaches to weight loss, you'll find something that works for you eventually. :)
