I've been on a diet for 24 years...
I was the girl in high school who was annoyed with all the other girls who were always on diets. I could eat anything I wanted (and then some) and not gain weight. I'm 5' 10" and in high school weighed right around 134 pounds. In my 20s I hovered around 152, which is a good weight for me. All that changed when I had my first kid and I've been battling my weight since then (karma anyone?). I'm now 50 years old and need to lose about 40 pounds, give or take a few. I lift weights and run several times a week. I ran a half marathon in 2007 (I was about 20 pounds lighter then) and just two weeks ago ran a 5k race with a 12:25 mile per minute pace (not too bad for a fat girl!). At any rate, I don't always eat badly, but I do sometimes and I can't lose weight for the life of me. I found 3 fat chicks last night and thought I'd give it a go and see if I can find anything here that'll help.
Thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to looking around and seeing what ya'll have to say. |

Hi and welcome to 3FC.
Good luck with your goals. Hugs Michelle |
I'm new too, and have been on a diet pretty much 15 of my 29 years....I have gone up and down so many times, but over the last few years I have not gotten back down....I am committed to losing weight for good and being healthier! From the posts I have read (and I have read a lot) this seems to be such a great way to get motivation, advice, and resources!
I am excited to get started! :carrot: |
Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone.

Welcome to you and good for you finding the support that you need.
I will say, that for myself, I have a problem using the word diet. I don't want my kids associating their mom with dieting their "whole" life like I did. So I am seeking a healthy lifestyle. Making healthy choices about what I feed my body. And soon, I will make healthy choices about exercising my body. I want my kids to see that taking care of themselves is a lifetime commitment...not a fad, not a diet, not a short term thing, rather a lifestyle choice. Once I worked the above out in my head, it was easier for me to wrap my brain around it and has thus far been easier for me to implement, both for myself and my household. My son, as a result has lost 6 pounds and his excited comment to me was: mom, since we've been eating healthier I've lost 6 pounds because I'm feeding my body what it needs...YES! that was success to me. He doesn't feel the stigma of being on a "diet" and he is more willing to try new foods. Just a thought and an example of a different perspective that has really made a difference for our family. We needed some serious help. :) |
Welcome to 3FC, we are glad you are here!
