I need to do this

  • Hi Everyone,

I'm 31 years old and have struggled with my weight ever since puberty. At my heaviest I was 242, but was then diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Thanks to the wonders of synthetic thyroid hormones, without even trying, I managed to drop about ten pounds. But the scale hasn't budged in months and it's time I really start trying to lose the weight. A few months ago my endocrinologist told me I was prediabetic and need to lose some weight. I've been in denial about the prediabetes, but have finally started to believe that if I don't get my act together, I will have diabetes in a few years. So here I am. Ultimately I want to get my weight down to 150 pounds, but since that seems almost insurmountable, for now, I have my sights focused on reaching 215.

  • that's great, 215 is an awesome goal. as you can see, I break down my goals into 5-10 pound pieces. It feels a lot more doable.

You can do this, trust me. my mom just turned 50 this last year, she was diagnosed pre-diabetic (or maybe full diabetic, I know she takes medicine but doesn't do shots or anything) and has lost 40 pounds more immediately, but from her highest weight it's more like 60. and that only puts her to close to your weight. She's in the 240's now.

so congratulations on starting this journey, it can be hard but it's so worth it.
  • Hi and welcome to 3FC.

    Good luck with your goals.

  • Welcome to the boards!
  • Welcome and good luck!

  • Hi and welcome to the group! My mom was also prediabetic and after losing 75 pounds she's not on meds anymore either! I know you can do it!

I take weight loss in small goals too. My current one is to get below 240. Making small weight goals really does help me keep motivated! 215 is an excellent mini goal for you to start with!
  • Thank you for all the welcomes and warm wishes!
  • Welcome Jezlyn to 3FC, we are glad you are here and know that you will find a lot of support here.
