new chica here.

Hi, my name is K and I'm new here! I started my weight loss goals on July 22nd, 2010. I've changed my lifestyle majorly and completely and am really enjoying it.

I went from eating fast food and junk all the time (I'm a busy girl with not much time to cook, I know, no excuse) to eating 100% healthy and lean. I went from drinking beer/liquor every night to drinking nothing but water with an occasional drink or two with friends. I went from sitting on my can drawing and animating all day to walking 3-5 miles certain mornings, and working out at a small local gym for an hour and a half 5 times a week consistently. I quit smoking cold turkey by using an e-cig May 31st and haven't looked back or had a single cigarette. I feel fantastic!

I started off at 262lbs July 22nd, and am now at 244 as of this morning. My goal is to be at 140 lbs by the end of May, for a total of 122 lbs lost.

I've gone online to look for tips and answers to questions when I have them, and more often than not found myself on this forum getting info. Hence, my joining your ranks.

I'm not what you would call a traditional person I guess (in behavior, lifestyle and appearance), so I'm not sure how this will go. I figure at the very least, no matter how different I am I still share a common goal with all of you- to get fit, lean and get healthy.

So, here is my formal greeting to everyone! I am a very open and social person, so say hello! I promise I don't bite. I may headbang a little though.

Hey there, nice to meet you. Good luck with your goals, I know you can do it! The first couple weeks starting off are hard, but push through them and you can do anything! Once you see that weight start to drop off, you'll feel wonderful. If you need any help, I'm here for you.

Thanks!

Hi squidcandy!

I'm REALLY interested in the e-cig you mentioned. Did you buy it off the internet? Which ones are the best in your opinion? I desperately want to quit smoking again. I could use any help I can get.....and I think this electric cigarette sounds like it would be great for me because I tend to think that my addiction is much more the actual act of smoking than it is the nicotine. I could care less if a cig has nicotine and would smoke banana peels as long as I could smoke it.....and feel a substitute like this would really help me.

Any info and recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

And you have made an amazing turn around to health. To quit smoking and drastically change your eating plan/WOE is amazing, quite frankly. I figured I'd lose the weight first and then quit smoking because I didn't think I could handle both simultaneously. But congrats to you!!! :cp::cp:

So you're life has been totally turned inside out from the sounds of things. And it's working! That's incredible. It's so challenging to change so many things at once but it sounds like you've got things under control and it's all clicking for you. Glad you joined the group, it's rather awesome :)

Hi there, and thanks! I finally figured out the only one who could change my life was me. 10 years ago, I wouldn't have had the self confidence to change anything... I was a fat metal/punk kid who didn't care what people thought of me... and I still don't care! The thing that's changed is an inherent desire to not be self destructive. I've had a long 28 years, and have been through more than most will see in a lifetime. This is just another journey!

Re: smoking! I'd recommend this method of quitting to anyone, and have. I've inspired 25+ people in my life to change over (after they tried mine), and it's working for them too. I bought mine online from vapor4life.com, but there are several other reputable sites that sell similar products. v4l is the one I use, though. The best part is the flavors... you can get tobacco flavors, or fruit flavors, or even flavors like peach cobbler! My favorites right now are Dr. Pepper, Kamel (tastes more like a good black tea than camel cigs, but is yummy!) wow peppermint, and wow sour cherry. It serves a double duty... I get the feeling of smoking, and at the same time get a taste of the sweet treats I no longer eat, so I feel like I'm indulging! You can get various strengths of nicotine, down to zero. I thought quitting was going to be hard because honestly, I was a smoker who LOVED smoking. I was pleasantly surprised... and I love not stinking like a cig butt! There are tons of sites out there, and I'd be happy to help you or anyone else who has any questions. :smoking:

Welcome to 3FC, we are glad you are here!

Deena52 08-24-2010 12:03 PM

Thanks so much for the electronic cigarette info and recommendation. I am having my sister check out the site (she's better at this than I am) to handle ordering this for me. I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks so much again, deena :)

Could you help me with this? Which specific package should I get? And are what are the juice/e-liquids versus the "cartomizers"? I am clueless about the individual various items on the site. Which ones would I need.....I want no nicotine....and are the Kamel-type ones just tobacco flavored and not real tobacco?
Which package should I get and how many additional packs of the flavored cigarettes (or whatever they're called) should I get? How long does one pack of 5 last?

Thanks again, deena

Deena52 08-27-2010 02:57 AM

I ordered from vapor4life and it was shipped out Wednesday and coming priority mail. I'm very excited and will let you know how I do....I'm determined to do this (as I sit here smoking a darn cigarette :(). But as soon as this gets here....that's it.
And I hope you are still here...but in one of the other forums....and doing well...and I thank you so much.

deena:hug:

Maralo 08-27-2010 10:55 AM

New too

Hey all, congratulations to all of you, and here's to your continued success!

I'm new here (over 50 and trying to figure out the format and navigating s-l-o-w-l-y) and on my second trip of needing to lose over 100 lbs. It's way harder over 50, so if you're not, do it now!

I've started a whacky diet (I know it's whacky, but I want a jump start) called Sadkhin, where you basically don't eat anything much, but what you do eat is between noon-6:00 pm. I've added protein powder (don't tell the "doctor"!) to make it less whacky. It is fast, and next week I'll start exercising to make it also less stupid and wrong. But sometimes you've just got to go for it, right?

Here we go! Nice to meet you all. And if I never find you again, I'll be wandering the site looking addled and lost...

squidcandy 08-28-2010 07:44 PM

Deena! I'm still here :)

Sorry for the late reply, I started school this week and haven't had time to breathe. Starting this past Monday my schedule goes like this - Monday through Friday I get up at 4:30 am to make it to the gym at 5am... I work out until 6:30, then go home to shower and have oatmeal- then I have class from 8am until 8:30pm with an hour break in the middle. In between other classes, I'm the tutor for the art and animation departments, I work as a lab monitor, I'm the vice president of the animation club, a member of the fine art club and the honor society, plus I still have homework and freelance art and design work. I've been sticking to my lifestyle no problem, though... only drinking water, counting calories and eating healthy (I pack my food with me for the entire day), taking vitamins, not drinking or smoking, and exercising every day. I'm pretty beat at the end of the day, but I can get up the next day to do it all over again and feel great!

Re: the e cigs!

(I just want to start out by saying that I'm not affiliated with this company in any way shape or form other than really liking their stuff and not having tried anything else at this point.)

I'm so happy that you put in an order! Quitting smoking was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. The kit I bought was $50. It came with two batteries (I got shortys at first, but then bought two regular size later because the batteries last longer)... a wall charger, a case, and a 5 pack of cartomizers.

One cartomizer is supposedly the equivalent of one pack of 'analog' cigarettes. I've found it to be true for the most part. I did get a cart that was a dud one time, but they have pretty decent customer service. They also usually send free samples, though lately not as much.

The juice is pretty neat, in that you can order a bottle of juice and a 5 pack of blank cartomizers and fill them over and over again... I like to be all mad scientist like and mix a bunch of different ones together (for example, mixed banana cream pie juice with 555, it tasted like banana nut bread.)

With both the juice and the carts, you can order them in different levels of nicotine. I started at an 18, and found it to be too strong sometimes... an 11 worked well. I've since stepped myself down to 8, and now 4 with an occasional 2. You pick the strength of nicotine when you go to put the flavor in your cart. Tobacco flavored carts are just flavored, they contain no actual tobacco. I've had the Kamel, and it tastes like unsweetened iced black tea to me. It was really good!

Those of you new like me - are you finding threads you particularly like or find active and helpful? Which ones?

Hello squidcandy! Welcome, I am also new here to 3FC, but not to the weight loss game, doing it for the final time! You have already done a wonderful job, keep it up, can't wait to see you post your goal pix! :)

Hi and welcome to you too!

Maralo: I'd recommend finding a place in one of the support groups. I'm in a couple, though I have yet to post much.. 20's, and 100+. Other than that, I kind of bounce around from forum to forum, or click on 'new posts' and go from there!

CoCoMonkey: You're going to do great, go for it! Thank you! If you need anyone to talk to, I'm here!

Maralo 08-29-2010 03:40 PM

Thanks, and good luck!
