New and overwhelmed

Hi everyone, Just joined and hoping the chat and support will help me. I'm feeling alot overwhelmed by the task ahead of me(and to be honest the sheer choice on this forum) I've been coming to terms with the fact that being overweight is now affecting my health. And I can't put it on the back burner anymore. I've 100lbs to lose and would love to have support from those who understand the issues. Thanks:?

Hello Donna and welcome. I too am new and have a weight loss goal of 100 pounds. The people here are very nice and supportive. The best of luck to you my dear! Let's complete our goals together.

jojo23 08-03-2010 05:57 AM

Exactly the same here girls and I'm new too. I have 100lbs to lose (at least!) Because it is such a monumental journey I have in front of me I'm taking it 10lbs at a time and I am already 5 down! Shall we band together? After all ther's safety in numbers isn't there? We can offer support, sympathy and all celebrate little victories. I'm in the UK too Donna.

Hi! Welcome to 3FC :)
Everyone on here is lovely and you'll find all the support (and more) that you need to reach your Goal.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by how much you have to lose, why nto try splitting you overall Goal into small Mini-Goals? Like 20 pounds to start with or something and work from there :)
Good luck anyway, I look forward to reading about your progress!

Thanks sounds great, I haven't figured out this forum thing very well yet. But I will, forgive me if I do something silly. I usually try to do this on my own, and finally figured out if it ain't working I better try something else.

Thanks, I'm 237 right now, and I think your right, I'd really like to be under the 200 mark but 20 pound goals makes sence. Every 20 off should make the knees ache just a little less.

Welcome. I suggest you look for a Support Group or Challenge to join; a small group of friends to help keep you motivated, find one that inspires you or fits your needs, and just post to join.

Liliann 08-03-2010 03:37 PM

Good luck with your efforts!

It can definitely seem like a huge task, both of what you mentioned. But it is a lot more do able when you look at it like mini forums and just find one that suits you. Best of luck, it can be done and I'm sure you've checked out some of the successes around here, they inspire me all the time.

Donna111 08-03-2010 06:02 PM

Thanks to you all, Your very welcoming and it's very much appreciated. Been feeling a bit bad these days, and beating my self up a bit. Was watching an episode of Oprah. Jerry Seinfeld was on, his advise to Oprah was "It's yours to design" So simple but sooo eye opening for me. So it's time for me to stop reacting to situations and take responsibily to design my life the way i want not what others expect. Wow quite a mouthful... THANKS AGAIN GUYS. I'm going to spend some time now reading on 3FC and hopfully figure it out.

Welcome Donna, sinfuldays and jojo! Glad to have you guys here. I have been yo-yo dieting and hitting bumps and hurdles just like everyone else since 2007. I'm 24, 5'2" and when I graduated college in May 08 I weighed 267. Since being on track and really putting forth effort, I'm now down to 197, and still looking for support to get me to goal of 130 or lower.

I noticed we are around the same height and starting weights, so just know that you can do it!! Stick around, post a lot, join the daily weigh ins over on the 100lb page, and just be proactive in your journey! Congrats on the first step!

Hi there, I am new today too and understand what you are facing. I know it's going to be a long road but I am hoping this forum will help give me the push I need. Good Luck!

sinfuldays 08-03-2010 10:32 PM

What really inspires me is seeing before and after pictures of other members and their weight loss tracker. Browse around and see what amazing things can come out of reaching your goal. It's quite motivating.

Just joined

I am new as of today and I just needed someone to listen to me. I need to lose 78 lbs. have been trying now for about 4 weeks, have lost 10 lbs, but it is so hard and I keep bouncing back and forth between 10lbs 12lbs, once I was down 13 lbs and then 3 of them show back up. I am not on any diet, just trying to change my eating habits and cut way back on portions, also trying a weight loss cd for some help.
would love to hear from someone out there.

Welcome to the site for ALL of the newbies that posted in this thread. :) You'll find a lot of support and encouragement at this forum as well as a lot of inspiration.

I also have another 100 pounds to lose, so you're definitely not in this boat alone. ;)

Welcome and glad you are here. What I would suggest is try not to look at the whole picture and set yourself mini goals. I started this back on June 30 and my first mini goal was no soda or fast food for a month. As July progressed I added heathier eating habits and exercising but still was focusing on my mini goal. Good luck and keep us posted

KarenBee 08-04-2010 09:43 AM

:welcome2: Donna -- I am new too.

This is a great place -- don't be overwhelmed by how large this place is and the number of various forums, just pick one or two where you think you fit and start posting. Everyone is extremely nice here, I am sure you will like it as much as I do.

This is a great group and there is a 100 or more to lose group thats great too.
I am with you I have over 100 to lose and im 43 down so far so it can be done with hard work and dedication! dont give up

starbrite 08-07-2010 03:43 AM

Welcome !!
Just to say when I started I also had over 100 lbs to lose. So far I'm down 49 adn motoring through. What has helped me has been looking at the decades. I started at 297 so my aim was to get to 289, then 279 etc. It helps to make it seem less of a monumental task.
In terms of other motivation I set myself a list of things I wanted to achieve. I'm 43 and feel half of my life has been "weighed down " by my weight. So I have several things I want to do in 50 lbs time, but also things I want to achieve along the way. E.g I had 10 inches cut off my hair yesterday... big deal when you have hidden behind a curtain of hair for so long. It marked the halfway point and was liberating. In 10 lbs time I'm going to have a high up earring, next ten pounds something else. This helps me. The overall goal is also a huge motivator. One of my reasons for losing weight is to be more active, like my signature says, I don't think life is a dress rehearsal, and I have spent so long being an observer - I want to be a participant now ! I love to ski, and went at nearly 300 lbs this year:dizzy: not the easiest thing to do ! I'm going again in January so hope to be able to do more than one run :carrot:
Clothes are another great motivator - watching the sizes go down is a phenomenal feeling. I have a goal item and I try it on regularly. This helps keep me sane.
Lastly, if you mess up and have a "bad" food day, forget it. Start afresh the next day. I have broken SOoooooooo many diets by having a day off plan, and then deciding I should give up. Girls, get right back on that horse and keep going.
You have made a huge step in the journey by coming here. The advice is good, and the babble great. The photos are an inspiration.I like the 100 club- because it's what I relate to as it's what I'm trying to do.
Good luck in your achievements and don't forget to let us all know how you are doing.
