Finally ready to do it! - and for GOOD this time!
Hello all,
I VERY glad to have found this site! I think it's exactly what I need! Here's a little about me: I'm 28 years old, from Canada. 5'6 and last time I weight myself I was 241.5 lbs. Growing up, I was always a little heavier than everybody else, but always within a healthy range. Never really overweight - at least not like I am now! I started gaining the weight in my early 20's. I was living with a long term boyfriend - and it was very easy to be comfortable and "let myself go". We split about 4 years ago - and I moved into my own apartment. I was bound and determined to start my life over and lose the relationship weight I had gained. At the time, I was 236.5. I joined Fitday.com, the gym - 5 nights a week, and started swimming laps 3 times a week. I was a work-out queen! The only problem with committing myself to such a strenuous routine, was as soon as I stopped, I gained the weight back - and quickly (PCOS can do that)! I had gotten back down to 185lbs. It felt great! I bought a new wardrobe... I'm sure many of you know the feeling of accomplishment. I'm pretty dissappointed in myself for letting go again. I've gain all the weight back and then some more! UGH! BUT - here I am - ready to start fresh again. I would like to lose roughly 100lbs. I know it sounds like a lot - at least it does to me - so I'm setting up smaller goals for myself. Say - 5-10 lbs a month. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! I know we all have different experiences and I'm very open to learning from other people! BTW - I have a wedding to go to next September and am also using it as motivation to look fabulous - not flabulous! LOL ;) Thanks all! -Sarah |

I am also new here so may be we can all help each other. You might want to setup small manageable goals rather than just setting 5-10 lbs a month kind of goal. Lets say just 20 minutes of walking or exercise. Eating in range of 1700 calories and stuff like that. Also, setting up a routine and plan helps. Try making a week's menu ahead of time and sticking to it (most of the time). Plan for parties ahead so that you know what you can do to adjust calories ahead and stuff like that.
For me, planning is something that always helps. |

Hi Sarah,
I am new here myself and I love this site. I need to lose 44lbs and I will. I have decided to log in every day that I can as a reminder to myself that I am trying to live a healthier life. I sometimes forget that I need to. I am a Philly girl but I get up to Canada a lot (Montreal and Ottawa). We will encourage each other along our weight loss journeys. I can not believe there is a thread here on PCOS - I got my diagnosis years ago but never attributed any weight gain to it. I can not wait to read the link above. Thanks to the woman who posted. I have checked out the PCOS info on this site. It puts a scary spin on things to know what can happen. Diabetes etc. - all the other complications related. All the more reason to stay positive and get healthy! -Sarah |
