Newbie Saying Hi!

In the search for a food prep answer, I found this site! I'm very curious to read more and learn as much as I can!

I'm Gretchen. I'm from Colorado, 53 (I am?), mother of two teenagers, married severn years to a wonderful guy (after eight years with a horrible one!) I'm an IT Project Manager at a major hospital, a job I love and am so lucky to have.

I've had a lifelong battle with weight issues, finding great success many times and falling off the wagon in a big way just as many times! I have no idea what prompted me to start the battle again, but I did on March 29 and lo and behold, I'm nearing the 20 pound loss mark! I am obsessively logging everything I eat on FitDay as well as another spreadsheet to track meals and other stats. My workout goal is 210 minutes a week, and I've exceeded that every week by at least 50%. I've been walking, swimming, lifting weights and Zumba (love that!) I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes about five years ago and have had long stretches of serious denial. I would describe it as decently controlled, with good readings these last few months.

I would so love to find something to get me back on track when I fall of the wagon in a serious way. So far, I have only come close to losing control once, but have amazingly felt very disciplined and motivated so far. I am happy and proud of what I've done these last months, but I am also so very aware of my history of very suddenly turning my back completely on my new habits and quickly eating myself back to the starting point and beyond. Food is my drug and I am a serious junkie. But I know that.

Some amazing stories on here and I look forward to "meeting" more of you. Best wishes!

Welcome. Since Chicks can be overwhelming at first, I suggest you look for a support group or challenge to join; a small group of friends to help keep you motivated. Find one you like that fits your needs, or inspires you, and just post to join.

Hi Gretchen and welcome. You have described me to the tee, don't know what prompted me either to start this time just decided in mid May that I would start my new journey on June 1st (only been at it for 19 days), but so proud of myself because I too have just stopped and went back to old eating habits just out of the blue .... never really thought of food as a drug but I guess it is when I think about it, thanks for putting it out there like that. I keep a tablet on the counter so that I can keep tabs on what I eat and planning my meals a day ahead just seems to work better. I have found when I don't I don't make good eating decisions. I am truly hoping to keep up what I've been doing until I get to my goal.

BIG Congratulations to you on the your weight loss and your drive for working out, wish I was there. Best of luck to you in reaching your goal weight.
