Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forums, I'm a guy, and I've been morbidly obese my entire life, but in the dangerous 300 lb range since I was 14 years old. In my early 20s, I'd gotten all the up to 448 lbs (!). Which was my highest weight, after that point I set out to lose weight as my quality of life deteriorated to the point I couldn't do anything, fit in movie theater seats, restaurant booths, doctor's examinating tables, you name it.

So from 2003 to 2005 I lost a little over 100 lbs going from 448 to 303. And, in order to even KNOW the 448 weight, I had to put two scales together and add because normal scales had long since stopped weighing me. Around 2007, I got down to 237, almost normal, but had some major health problems and my pain medications (ibuprofen) and also the feeling that because I was maintaining I could eat more, ha, led me to regain back up to 351 last year.

So it's been a long struggle, I've got most of that off now and stopped the ibuprofen, I just deal with the pain. I'm down to 286 atm and working to get the rest of it off. Just trying to get to Onederland, a place I haven't been since I was about 12 or so, haha. And, yeah it's weird as of now, I weigh what I did when I was 13. Which is trippy.

Also psychologically I think I gained back up because, after being an outcast, psychologicially it is difficult to adjust to positive romantic type attentions, so I used the weight as a form of protection.

At any rate, that's me in a nutshell. I know this place is called "3 Fat Chicks on a Diet", but are there other guys here like myself?

At any rate this forum looks like a busy, hopping place, and looking forward to joining you.

Hey there!

I'm new to the forums too - and from California :-)

Good news bad news about California is there's so much good healthy food, but so much "good" bad food!

I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment, but if you want to chat or talk that would be awesome.

I'm on the forum because I've always been about 20-40 lbs overweight for my height as an adult and was a plump kid. I tend to self-sabotage just when I start making progress...or I fall into the family traps of "Oh you're thin enough! EAT SOME PIE!!!" LOL...

Anyways, it would be wonderful to support each other! :-)

Thanks for sharing your story, and I hope you enjoy it here.

The fact that you are down to 286 is great -- you have already made a lot of progress, so I'm sure you will reach your further goals. (Actually, the fact that you have made such a drastic change encourages me for my husband's sake -- he is 381 at 6'3", but hopefully he will be able to drop at least 100 pounds and be more healthy.)

Thanks, yeah, it's not easy, but it's doable. My only recommendation for him is a modified Atkins. In reality, exercise doesn't do much except raise metabolism a slight bit and keep you toned, but as for burning calories, it's pretty much a fallacy.

My advice for him would be to cut out most of the starchy carbs: that is to say breads, all pastas, sugars, white flour and avoid HFCS. If he can do that, the weight will start to fall off. Meat is ok and will actually promote weightloss. I'm not for the total adoption of nothing but bacon or something, but a nice balance of meats and veggies is good. The calories fat factory is in: breads, pasta, potatoes, sugary products. HFCS is in everything pretty much, read those labels.

Cool. Well be sure and do your own research. I've been at this awhile, but as much as I've been at it, I'm certainly no expert. Make sure it's a balanced diet and all of that. I just know what worked for me. But everybody's different. Anyway, good luck!
