I can't stop gaining weight.
Hello---I'm here for two reasons. I am 32 with three kids. Living in Michigan, the winter months always get to me. I hibernate like a bear. Usually in the winter I gain about 5 pounds and these go away in the spring/summer. Maybe because I'm getting older, maybe for other reasons, this winter I gained 15 pounds! To some this may not seem like a lot, but I've never been a skinny girl to begin with and it has always been very difficult for me to lose weight. I'm afraid that I am going to continue to gain weight and never be able to get it off.
My second concern is for my 11 year old daughter. She has also gained quite a bit of weight in recent months, so as a mother, I must become a better role model. I need to show her how to make healthier choices and get us both more active. I am not following a specific diet at the moment. I have decided to start with just a conscious effort to eat better, drink more water, and exercise...and of course, keep healthier foods in the house for the family. Reading posts from others on this site has already been inspirational. Wish me luck! |
I think it's great that you're getting healthy for both you and your family :). Don't worry, if you work at it and really give it your best shot, you'll be able to get that winter weight off!
Good luck! :carrot: |
Thank you for the encouragement and congrats on your weight loss!

I can relate to gaining in the winter too. I am in northern MN and it's hard to get out & exersize - especially if you don't have a gym membership.
I am on day 10 of my mission to lose about 30 lbs. I've stalled a bit, but stayed completely on track. Hoping to see some results again soon. Welcome & stay strong :) |
Like Basil, I'm also a northern MN girl and can definitely relate to the winter thing. I work in the middle of nowhere so a gym membership is not really realistic for me...so I started working out at home when I started this journey in January (videos, elliptical machine and wii Fit.) So glad it's nicer outside now though!
I also think we midwesterners, especially, eat much heavier foods in the winter. Lots of meat, potatoes and other "comfort" foods! Welcome and best of luck on your journey! |
Finding healthy recipes that the whole family will eat has also been a challenge. We are definitely meat and potato people!
How do you like the wii fit? We have a wii and I've thought about wii fit, but I didn't know if it worked. Is it a good workout? Thank you all for your encouragement! |
Hi Chrystall,
Good Luck. At least you have more motivation because you are concerned about your daughter as well. I live in the mountains so I'm all about the hibernating like a bear--but at least they don't eat while they're doing it!!! |
U asked for it and you got it: :goodluck:
and :wel3fc: |
Welcome! You came to the right place and it is clear how much you love your daughter and want to be a good role model for her :)
Maybe you and your daughter could join a class together or do something fun together where you are both moving and having fun and bonding -- like a dance class or something... don't make it about 'weight' just about having fun and some mother/daughter time together.... As for the Wii fit, I don't have it but I want it and I hear it is SO fun! Good to have you here :) |
