Californication

Hello! I'm an 18 year old vegetarian male hoping to find support on this forum for my horrible, and I mean horrible eating habits. Weight isn't my main concern (although it doesn't hurt to lose some ;)), but I'm more directed towards healthy since I've been recently informed that nobody in my family has lived passed 60. The main problems I have are all mental, for example:
  • When I eat something bad, I feel like I have a free pass to eat poorly all day (and binge)
  • Even when I've just finished eating, I'd feel an urge to eat something unhealthy (most likely something sweet)
  • When I miss a day of working out, I also feel like I have a free pass to skip the rest of the week (especially bad on Monday)
Anyway, I guess this forum is just a way to keep myself on track. Thanks for having me!

Welcome! The guys here do at least as well as the girl chicks! Lots of good info and ideas here. You might check out the food groups for ideas on good foods you can eat. You'll prolly hear a lot about eating veggies and whole grains...not sure if that's the kind of stuff you are looking for or not.

My hubby and I used to always have something sweet immediately after dinner, no matter how much food dinner was! And then later, a salty or not sweet snack. Lots of fat to be sure! A lot of it is just a habit, or at least it was for us. We are working on changing old habits.

I am the same way with throwing the towel in on the day. I have been eating great for a few days- then I had an unhealthy breakfast so I basically allowed myself to eat like a crazy person the rest of the day! It feels terrible! The only thing you can do is try again the next day. I hold myself accountable by weighing in every morning. I know I'll see a higher number tomorrow, but it will hopefully set me up for doing better in the rest of the week.

PS My whole life my family has had dessert after every meal so I always feel like I need something sweet after I eat in order to feel satisfied. Now, gum is the only thing that will officialy "end" a meal for me.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone with the same bad habits!

I really wish I could chew gum, but the sugar-free gum gives me..."stomach" problems and normal gum is too sweet. :(

Welcome sylar

Welcome sylar - It's always nice to have another man on 3FC.

If you look about, you'll find Forums for different age groups, different interest groups, and different exercise and eating plans.

It's super neat that you are already onto the notion that pursuing good health is the key; weight will follow. Yep, it's a lifelong thing and the sooner you pick up more skills the better your chances are for breaking that glass ceiling of 60 years old.

Good luck with finding what you need around here.
