Restarting after gaining it all back plus 20.

What in the world happened? I was doing well, eating great, exercising. I hurt my back in July and when I was unable to exercise, I lost all of my drive. I slowly let go of all my determination and hid from the scale.

Today I went to the doctor for my back yet again and they threw me right on the scale, which I didn't expect and I weigh 271! What has happened to me? I knew I gained back all the weight I lost but I had no idea that I had gained an extra 20 pounds!

I am really depressed about it, but I am going to try and exercise by walking or riding my stationary recumbant bike at least three times per week, going back to eating healthy and feeling good.

Hopefully I can do this even better this time, I can eat healthy without becoming too obsessed with calorie counting and basing too much on my pounds lost, because it was more discouraging then encouraging.

I plan to only weigh in every few weeks and the only reason to eat badly is if I want to be fat, which I know I DO NOT want to be.

I hope I can be welcomed back, this site was a tremendous help last time around.

Thanks,
Leah

I know that's discouraging, but you did it before and you can do it again. We all have fallen off the wagon, but you gotta dust yourself off and try again!

You can do it!

I second that!!! YOU CAN DO IT..and what's best is YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT... you are armed with all of the tools that you need.
This place is your home, but if it makes you feel better, :welcome2:

You can do this! You know how! Looking forward to losing it with you!

Keep positive and just like the girls are saying, you did it once you can do it again. Welcome back...

Welcome! I am in a similar situation. Lost about 60lbs in 2006 and gained it ALL back last year. Although I wasn't physically hurt, I was in a relationship and was emotionally hurt...

....and here I am.

We can do this!

Thanks you guys! I had begun to lose weight just a few weeks after a surgery on my right knee, then I had another one just two months after I began losing weight and I was able to continue my weight loss through that, but my back injury stopped me in my tracks. It is now looking like I have some back surgery to look forward to, luckily the doctors agree that it doesn't have anything to do with my weight but I want to lose it for many other reasons.

Hopefully I can make a change I can stick to this time!

:welcome3: back Leah! Sorry to hear about your back injury. I have been stuggling too. I gained back almost 34 LBS, and need to lose 95.8 LBS. But the good thing is it's Spring yet and we can get a jump on this weight loss before Summer rolls around. Let's Do It! Good Luck!

I think restarting can be one of the hardest things to do, because you feel so frustrated and scared of gaining it all back. However, I think that fear helps us hold strong to our goals. High five for taking control and I think this is a great place to make friends while you get the support that is so helpful when we're all trying to take it one day (or one piece of celery) at a time. :)

Hi! Welcome back. I find that chronic pain makes it very hard to stay motivated. You'll get it this time for sure though!

I did calorie counting last time but I found that I became too obsessed with getting around 1,000 calories and not being reasonable about how much my body needed. I am going to try and go back to eating the healthy, low calorie, low fat foods I ate before and aim for a healthy calorie intake along with moderate exercise. I cannot do too much because of my injuries, but I will be trying!

rainydays 04-01-2010 04:16 PM

Wow, 1000 calories is way too low, I'm glad you realize you need more to be healthy. You'll do great this time!

JennieLovesKisses 04-01-2010 04:19 PM

You can do it! :D
