Default New from Massachusetts. :)

Hey! I've just joined Weight Watchers, and I've come to this forum for support along the way. I'm around 260 right now, and my ultimate goal weight is 150-160. I know I have a long way to go but I'm going to take it a day at a time!

I have all kinds of emotions right now...Part of me is SUPER motivated, and another part of me is so sad that I'm going to have to rethink my unhealthy COMFORTABLE habits..but it needs to be done!

But anyways, my names Meg and I'm a freshman in college. (A journalism major). My main goals are really silly ones that are important to me...To not have a double chin in pictures, to become more active and less laaaazy!, to drink more water, to have an easier time finding jeans...things like that.

Well I just wanted to say hello and you should see me around here from now on.

Hi Meg!
Hey, those aren't silly goals, all those changes will add up to some big results in no time - the support you need is here - we'll all be here to cheer you on.

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated and inspired. Try the 20 somethings and the weight loss support forums, they're active and very helpful - also the Success stories are a definite must for motivation. Check out the Weight Watchers forum to meet others and share support and advice.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here since last fall, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of going off track or giving up. It has made all the difference in my success so far.

So welcome - you've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired!

All the best - good luck with your goals,
Lee

Hey Meg,
I to just joined and am from Massachusetts. Good luck and what helped me was to set 1 goal at a time. For example I told myself I was going to lose 5 lbs in one month. I ended up losing 8 lbs. which was even better. lol.

Thank you all! I'm really excited to have found this site for support. I'll have to check out that 20 somethings forum. It's awesome you lost more than your goal, oasis, hopefully I'll have that determination too. =) Thank you all once again for the warm welcome!

Hi Meg and welcome.

"I have all kinds of emotions right now...Part of me is SUPER motivated, and another part of me is so sad that I'm going to have to rethink my unhealthy COMFORTABLE habits..but it needs to be done!"

I gained 60 lbs. in 2005 from a medication that I stopped in 2006...and then set out to lose the weight on the Atkins diet, which I'd been very successful with back in the 90's (and then had maintained for 12 years). However, I was so horrified by the weight I was gaining from the medication, that I ultimately almost stopped eating altogether and mainly drank coffee, which I have always loved. BUT...for some darn reason, I began to put more and more artificial sweetener in it...and am even too embarrassed to tell you how many I was putting in my coffee...it was probably a dangerous amount. SO....I could not get the diet to work and was beyond frustrated for several years...getting nowhere.

At any rate, I finally had them trouble-shoot for me on a different site and it turned out that the artificial sweeteners were causing the diet not to work for me this time around. But THEN....I felt exactly as you did....horrified and scared that I would have to give up my ultra-sweet coffee...which had become the highlight of my day. (turns out I can have up to 3 packets of Splenda max...a mere fraction of what I used to use)....BUT, all my fears and apprehension turned out to be silly.

Yes, there was an adjustment period for a few days but I quickly learned to adjust to the much less sweet coffee and in fact, it now tastes perfectly sweet to me with only one packet of Splenda per cup...3 cups/daily total....and I can't even imagine how I drank it with so much sweetener in it.

So don't worry...this is normal. Just maintain a state-of-mind that this will be much healthier, will have huge benefits and that although you may have a short adjustment phase, that if you stay strong and stick to it, your taste buds and your preferences will completely change and you can come to love and prefer an altogether different...and healthier..eating plan.

Plus...I can ASSURE you now....NOTHING ever tasted as good as being a normal weight now feels.....trust me!
It's totally worth it.
