New in Japan
Hi
Another newbe here. I have hit my all time highest weight this morning and feel awful. I stepped on the scales and they said "Get off me"..... No they actually said 100....no not 100lbs but 100KG, very big difference, about 220lbs!! That looks a lot worse! So I have to loose some. But I hate dieting, I hate trying and trying and seeing the scales move or my clothes fit any better. I have a lot against me. Or a lot of excuses? I am a stress eater, when stressed I head for the fridge and eat and eat! And I know others have hard lives and stress but my life these past few years has been one big stress after another. I live in a foriegn country, I can barely function here (southern Japan), my language is broken and I can't read that much! I have four wonderful kids, but I have a hard time with the schools here, my kids have been bullied a lot. I run my own business and am just scrapping by finacially. My wonderful husband almost died 2007, high blood pressure, resulted in a one month hospital stay and kidney failure. My MIL is abusive, we lived with her for a year, big mistake, kids are just starting to recover from that! Also I suffered from bullimea (or however you spell it) in my 20s. I lost so much weight that I was passing out all the time! My age is against me, I will be 48 this year. So those are the things that are going to make this hard. But my husband is on board, he has put weight on again and needs to loose some as well. He has agreed not buy any more snack after we finish off the stuff we have. Three of my kids are getting a bit chubby so I think that a rethink of my menus is in order. I love to bake and have decided to bake instead of buying and if there is nothing else then fruit for snacks is good (better?). This is long...sorry. I need support, shoulder to cry and a kick up the butt now and then. Jackie |
:wel3fc: Hi Jackie!
Life certainly has given you a number of challenges, more than your share - but it sounds like you are much stronger than you think, getting through all that and now choosing to commit yourself and your family to a healthier life -the support you need is here, so is the shoulder (and the foot) - we'll all be here to cheer you on. Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated and inspired - you'll be a wonderful addition to any of them - you can be a great support to others facing difficult challenges. There's also info and first hand advice on different eating plans and exercise to help get through the ups and downs. There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way. I've only been here a few months myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of going off track or giving up. It has made all the difference in my success so far. So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired! :df: All the best - good luck with your goals - here's to a better year for us all, Lee |
Hi there!
You've come to the right place for support, shoulders, and butt kicks! I bet living in a foreign country is an added challenge. But you can do this. Getting started is the roughest part and you're here so that's a step in the right direction. Feel free to post anywhere you feel comfortable - we're here for you! :wel3fc: |

Hi Jackie and welcome to 3FC.
Instead of thinking of it as dieting, how about thinking of it as a lifestyle change? Try taking it just one step at a time and don't let it overwhelm you :) You will find lots of great advice, tips and support here. Good luck with your goals. Hugs Michelle |
Great advice there from Onederchic!
Put yourself to the top of your priorities. Put your sleep, nutrition and exercise as PARAMOUNT right now. You MUST get fit for you--then you will begin to figure out this quandry! Pinpoint what you trouble areas are--are you night snacker? Do you eat what your children have left behind? Are sweets your enemy? Get rid of whatever is ailing you and suit yourself for SUCCESS. It really is there for the taking. I understand about being overseas--I have done it once in Asia, twice in Europe. I get it! Whatever your position there, find your leverage and WORK it! Stick to fresh fruits, veggies and fish if need be--plenty of all those there! Then, find your movement regardless of what it is! Cleaning? Window shopping? Walking? Whatever works for your environment, do it! Do you have any locals you have made friends with? Maybe they can pinpoint you in the right direction and offer some real life support if you are needing it. |
Thanks
Thank you for making me feel welcome.
I have already lost 1kg (about 2lbs) and all I've done is said no to the snacks that my kids were eating. Yesterday I did a bit of shopping. I don't know in the US or other countries but Japanese supermarkets seem to be full of junk food. One supermarket that I got to a lot had a massive sign saying sale. I went hoping to get a load of vegetables, fruits etc but all the sale stuff was chocolate and snack breads!!! Still I didn't buy and saved a good $20!! Today and tomorrow we are having parties, this past week my 3rd son turned 12 and my oldest 18. So I'm going to bake some goodies but most weill be saved for during the week. I am determinded not to spend money on junk food any more! |
Good for you! :D
