Things are going to change..HELLLO..please say hi back! lol x

Hiii Everyone!

I got a picture of given to me about a month ago, it was from a gig Id gone to, and had specifically chosen an outfit because I felt like I didnt look massive.
I turned out to be incorrect and on recieving the picture all framed as a present...I cried hysterically.
Im 24,a british size 24 and Im unhappy, unhealthy and ready for a change.
So after a couple of weeks of self loatheing and binge eating, I decided to make a step and get motivated.
I typed in "fat friend syndrome" into google, cos I am such a sufferer of it..and this fantastic forum came up...so I joined immediatly.

I hope to get to know you and share my worries and success'

Id love to hear about you..

Star85 :)

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!

You're gonna love it here. Lots of great support, encouragement and advice.

Enjoy!

:wel3fc: Hi Star!
So many of us can relate to your feelings - we've been there (or still are) - the support you need is here - we'll all be cheering you on.

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated, inspired and entertained! There's also info and first hand advice on different eating plans and exercise to help choose the right ones for you and get through the ups and downs.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a few months myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired! :df:

All the best - good luck with your goals,
Lee

Hi Star and welcome.:)

What were the other diets/plans you tried before? And what issues were problems for you related to them?

For me, the biggest issues were 1) being hungry and 2) not getting results. I am not a picky eater so restrictions I have to follow are not a problem....but being hungry IS a huge problem and would destroy my will-power. I found that Atkins/low-carb is the plan for me because on it, I am never hungry and have no cravings. Plus, I get good results.

But for others, having to severely limit carbs or certain foods is unacceptable...so this plan would not be for them. It's really helpful to figure out which plans would work best for you.....because I can tell you that if I was trying to be calorie-counting, I'd have struggled horribly and given up...but on this plan, I do great. For others...it's something different.

You want to choose the one that you think you can actually stick with. I do the same thing with exercise. Walking is something I can stick with and have. Working out in the gym? Not so much. Best to choose the one you can stick to for the long haul.

Welcome Star !

Star85 12-21-2009 03:45 PM

Hii Deena!
thank you for your input.

well Ive tried cabbage soup, slimfast,gi,low carb,NO carb, low sugar...since I was about 13 and have lost up to 2 stone on them and then got downheartened when the weight stopped falling off I felt like a failure so stopped...
Im thinking of maybe going back on the GI cos Ive got PCOS and have been advised to go on it.

Excercise...I dont want to go to the gym, because I lack the motivation and I dont want to feel like people are judging me..and plus if I get a subscription...i wont go and will lose my money. I was thinking about getting an ipod...putting together a playlist of say an hour then walking until the playlist is over?

Alicia :)

I count calories and try to focus on healthy foods as you get more of it for the calories than junk food. It gives me the most flexibility and I don't have to keep track of do's and don'ts and all the piddly rules that go along with most official diets.

As for exercise, I do walk a lot now, but I have lost what I've lost without a strict exercise plan. At first, it was all I could do just to focus on the food. And I was really interested in the controversy that came out this year about how exercise isn't required for weight loss. Yes, it's necessary for good health to move and be active, but the idea that it wasn't required to lose weight, and may actually hinder my progress, was really freeing to me. (Here's one of the articles: http://www.time.com/time/health/arti...914857,00.html) So now I keep weight loss and exercise separate in my head and it works for me.

Anyway, my suggestion to people just starting out with a lot of weight to lose is to focus on getting your eating under control. Then layer on more daily activity (not necessarily structured workouts, but walking, taking stairs, etc.) later once the food becomes a good habit. Jumping into the gym at nearly 300 pounds is not a comfortable experience nor a requirement to start losing the pounds.

Others have said it but it bears repeating: You've found the right place, Star! I read these threads for a few months before joining myself. I'm so glad I did. You can throw any thought, question, or cry for help out there and you will get tons of thoughtful responses and help.

Welcome!!! I am new here as well and 3fc has been great! Looks like we have fairly similar starting height and weight. I agree with CLCSC145. Start with just getting your eating habits under control and then move on to adding in excercise. That's how I started, and it was much easier to make small changes slowly rather than a whole lifestyle overhaul all at once.

Star85 12-24-2009 05:03 PM

oooh someone as tall as me...loove it :)
oooh so you focused on your eating habits first?
how did you lose your first pounds and how long did it take?
