new here - need motivation to exercise
 
Hello everyone. I am brand new to this site and seeking support. My highest weight was somewhere over 440 (that's as high as the Dr.s scale goes). I'm at 387 now. I was going in for gastric bypass but they stopped the surgery right before they were going to put me under because my heart was in poor condition. I have to go back to cardiologist to see if there's anything they can do. I've been kind of depressed since then. I lost that hope of being able to lose the weight fast enough to reverse my heart disease. I'm still losing slowly and am concentrating on portion control and making healthy choices. I am having ALOT of trouble trying to motivate myself to exercise. Does anyone have any ideas? One problem is that my weight is such that I can't get around that much and most things that people recommend are things I can't do, so if anyone knows of maybe some fun things I can do, that can get me motivated it would be appreciated.

Wow congratulations a 50 plus pound loss is very impressive!! I would try walking. Its a great way to exercise and you can track your improvement as you see yourself walking longer and faster.

Welcome to 3FC. I agree, walking is a great form of exercise. I started at 330 pounds and my exercise in the beginning was walking in place 5-15 minutes daily. You should also look into Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds DVD series.

Well done on the 50+ pounds so far :hug: I agree with the walking, start out slow and build up your stamina.

Welcome and as everyone else here, I think your weight loss so far is great! Don't let yourself get discouraged, keep reading and talking here on the forum as there are some great threads and some great people here.

I think the walking idea is perfect, and keep in mind that any extra movement is working toward your goal... consider doing leg lifts while you're sitting and watching TV or walking in place during the commercials of your favorite shows!

You can also just stand more often than you're used to- it's a start. Whatever you choose I hope it works well for you, and I wish you all the best of luck on your journey :)
