Namaste from the pacific northwest usa

Hello, I am new to this site, and I thought I'd introduce myself.

I have been trying to lose weight since I was 12, I was very thin as a child, but when I hit puberty I gained a lot of weight. I have been diagnosed with poly-cystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS.

Having a condition like this make it very difficult to lose weight. I have to work two - three times harder to lose weight. Last year I started this weight lose journey and I lost 25 lbs, but I've slipped up over the past 6 months and I've gained 11 lbs back. :( Anyway, I need support from people if I am going to do this right. I felt very much in control with my weight loss plan until my sister moved in and she is a sugar junkie. I really need to get back on track.

I weighed 229 lbs, now I am 215 lbs, and my goal is 160. I'm 5'8 and I'm 24 years old.

I know I can't blame my sister for her sugar addiction, and I don't blame her, I blame myself for being weak and giving into temptation.

Hopefully I can meet some new friends and have better fortune this time around. :) Thanks for reading everyone!

Hey Guinevere - :wel3fc:

Boy, are you in the right place! We have a PCOS/Insulin Resistance forum, so you can check in there for more information.

I also have PCOS, and I want to tell you, weight loss (even a LOT of weight loss) is definitely, definitely possibly, despite the difficulties that PCOS poses. A lot of people find that moderating blood sugar spikes/dips is helpful, so something without a lot of refined grains/sugars, with a lot of protein and fiber, etc might be beneficial.

Also, not sure if you've talked to your doctor - the medical community is, more and more, prescribing Metformin to regulate blood sugar, in patients with PCOS. So if you haven't considered that option, you might talk to your physician - it isn't for everyone (and I didn't end up going that route), but does help a lot of people.

Anyway, that was a novel! Stick around! You may also want to check out our 20-somethings forum, for those in that age range.

Can't wait to get to know you better!

Thank you very much for responding! :)

I have tried metformin, or glucophage as my doctor called it, and it gave me extreme headaches. :( I wish it would have worked for me, but right now my doctor has me on yasmin for PCOS. He has me on a continuous plan so I have a menstrual cycle every 3 months.

I am so glad I signed up on this forum. I wasn't aware of the PCOS forum, but I am very pleased to hear about it. :D

Lately I've been having migraines about 2 - 3 times per week, and I have a constant headache. I've been to the doctor several times about it, but he says I need more exercise. Right now I'm walking 2 miles a day, and doing an hour of yoga, and he said that's not enough. Well, I can't do more because my joints hurt a lot, and I have these horrible headaches that won't go away.

I've been wondering if it's related to gluten intake, do you know of anyone who has headaches from wheat products?
