New from AR

I'm Roxanne, I'm 31 and I have PCOS and was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic at the beginning of July. I began trying to get my weight under control in February and gave up about a week into April. I started again at the beginning of July having miraculously only gained back 6 pounds during my nearly 3 months off. Since February 17 I have gone from 245 to today's weight of 209. I want to get pregnant which since I have PCOS and diabetes means I have to lose weight first. My goal weight is 115, but I am hoping for a pregnancy somewhere along the way to stop me from getting there just yet;) I am mostly just counting calories and exercising. I use the body bugg system for calorie tracking - I started the body bugg on August 11, it is awesome. I am taking Slim Quick to help with the weight loss along with cinnamon, vitamins, and the drugs the docs give me for my diabetes.

Onederchic,
Congrats on not just the weight loss, but the quitting smoking too. You quit the day after I did. We're almost to a year. I hope that feels as great for you as it does for me. My new fitness goals have shown me some new benefits to the quitting smoking that until I started doing things like working out and eating more veggies I never knew about and it is totally awesome! The only way I used to be able to eat beans was to put a bunch of sauce and salt and such on them. Now that I'm not smoking and killing all my taste buds I appreciate the taste of the beans themselves - same with a great many veggies (including my new favorite food, zucchini). And before when I was a smoker I always wanted a cigarette after a workout, they always made me feel sick as a dog, but I had to have them anyway. Knowing that was going to happen of course made me dread my workouts all the more. That is gone now, woohoo! Now I've gone and made myself want some zucchini so I'm off to make some. Congrats again on both of your healthy choices.

Roxy

Hi I was just wondering what the body bug system is, I have never heard of it. You seem to be doing awesome, good job!

Body bugg is a calorie counting device. You wear the little thing on your arm and it counts how many calories you burn throughout the day as well as your steps and how many minutes you spend in "activity". It also has an online subscription where you input what you eat and it then does all the calculations for you to tell you your calorie deficit. It tracks everything for me and helps me set appropriate goals. It doesn't only keep track of calories - when I put in what I eat it tracks calories, fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbs, fiber, protein, and even calcium. I can also look at what my average calorie deficit is so far for the week to tell what I should be losing come weigh in day. I have mine set to also track my body fat % and lean body mass, but that is optional. It also gives me a suggested meal plan. I never follow it because I'm not much of an eat what I'm told to person, but it is very helpful for some. There is also an excercise section where it gives you a workout plan (which I also never follow) and even tells you how to do the excercises. So the whole thing is kinda like having a dietician and personal trainer all rolled into one. I'm sorry for going on so long, but I really do love the thing, my sister-in-law uses one and as soon as she showed it to me and showed me what it did I had to have one and ordered it that night. It is a little expensive - I spent about $300 because I got the digital display as well (if anyone decides to get a body bugg I highly recommend having the display as well). It comes with 6 months of the online subscription ($10 a month after that) and a 45 minute phone session with a body bugg coach so that you can make sure you know how to use it properly. I think it is some of the best money I have spent on fitness stuff ever. My husband is also very impressed with all the data you get using the thing. I'm not sure if I am allowed to post links or not, but they do have a website - just google body bugg (with a double g) - if you want more info, or if you happen to live near a 24 hour fitness they carry them. Ok, Roxy leaves commercial mode now.

Welcome, I think you are in the right place. Everyone is very supportive and friendly here. I see my buddy has told you about the forums for PCOS and diabetics. Congrats on your weight loss up until now, I know how hard it can be. I don't have either of your conditions but I know it's hard to lose weight, I myself have lost 97 pounds over the past year. Again welcome and good luck!
