hi everyone, I just found this site and joined, but have no idea where to go. I am looking for friends and support to start a weight loss program.:)

40 and also feeling frumpy

It's nice to see someone else who feels the same. I saw this site and had to join. I am starting a diet called Ideal Protein. A lady who started working here recently went on it and lost 35lbs in 4 months and has kept it off. I am tired of only being 40 years old but look matronly because of the weight. Nothing you wear looks or hangs right. I have been on every diet out there and still holding out hope.:?:

Hey 40 and Fabulous.

Welcome. Just surf around and get comfortable. There are different diets listed in the support forum. I am a calorie counter with a strong focus on whole foods. In the past, I have tried Atkins, Southbeach, Southhampton as well as meal delivery systems. Every individual though has to find what works for them.

Welcome.

I just turned 40 myself. This is the first time I am dieting for the right reasons. It isn't as much about looking good anymore, although it would still be nice. The truth is I want to feel good and I haven't in awhile. The older I get the harder it is for me to physically carry this weight around. I want to be active and not have to worry if I will fit in places like seats or amusement park rides. I want to be able to climb my stairs without being winded and not consider walking a couple of blocks strenuous exercise.

Well, there is hope:) Those of us over 40 know it is hard to lose weight and keep it off, but at 48 I have been able to lose 16 pounds and keep it off for 8 months by exercising and counting calories. While I am not at my goal weight I have proven to myself that it can be done.

The best part of it all? My energy level is what it was 5 years ago and hope it will get much better.

Good luck to you!:)

I count calories with sparkpeople.com

I find counting calories is the only thing that has worked for me, not cutting carbs or becoming vegetarian, but being able to technically eat anything as long as it's within moderation and in my calorie ranges :)

:wel3fc: Hi F&F!

Glad to have you join us! There are lots & lots of different groups and forums - I'm sure you'll find some that will keep you motivated, inspired and entertained! You'll also find info and first hand experience on various plans to help find the one that's right for you.

There are bunches of people here with more to lose and some with less - the bottom line is that we all have to do it a day at a time. The good thing is that we'll have lots of company along the way.

I've only been here a short time myself, having NEVER been part of an online forum. What has been so eye-opening is how much it has helped me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or defeated, I just log on and read some of the success stories, complete with their before & after photos - or read about others still dealing day to day with their challenges - and before I know it, the time has flown by and so have all the thoughts of cheating or giving up.

So welcome - you 've found the right place - join in by inspiring us and being inspired! :df:
