The journey continues...

My name is Kurri, I'm 5'2" and I currently weigh 178 pounds.

I have a twin sister and have been the heavier one since birth. (She was 5lbs and I was 5lbs 7 oz). Our weights were never drastically different until puberty...it hit me hard and barely had any effect on her. At 12, I went from being 76 pounds in the beginning of the school year to 106 pounds by the end of the school year. I "embraced" my weight and never really showed anyone that it bothered me. My mother always called that my baby fat.

By the time I was a Junior in high school, I weighed about 150 pounds but was pretty active and definitely wasn’t bothered by being heavier. Throughout that year, I was off my feet (and out of school) for almost 3 months due to suffering a collapsed lung and a month of mono. By my last doctor’s appointment I had lost 21 pounds bringing me to my lowest ‘adult’ weight of 129.

At the end of 2005, my sisters and I decided we wanted our high school selves back and joined Curves. My first day at Curves happened to be the first time I stepped on a scale after high school, I weighed 158 pounds. About a month after joining, I went through a bad break up and really had no will to look good... so I stopped going. That was May of 2006.

My weight gain since then was gradual. It wasn’t until my twin sister told me to step on her scale in July of 2008 that I decided that I wanted to know how much I weighed. That was the worst/best decision of my life. 192 pounds! To say I was in shock would be the biggest understatement ever. I cried and cried and cried that entire night and a few other nights that week. The end of that month we attended my cousin’s wedding and although I was pleased with the way I looked when I left, I cried again when I came home and saw some of the pictures of myself. I now use those as inspiration pictures. I never want to look like that again. By January of 2009, I had lost 20 pounds and since then I have gained five back. I think my biggest problem was not being more active and mainly sticking to eating half portions of what I usually ate. This obviously could only work for so long.

This past week my father and grandfather both had to go to the cardiologist and that scared the fitness bug back into me. With bad hearts on both sides of the family and a, eh, super-sized family, I wasn’t just scared for myself, I was scared for all of us. My sisters and I teamed up to create a fitness club that we’ve extended to include our entire family. My goal is to get myself healthy while helping the rest of them to get motivated.

My starting weight today is 178. My goal weight by March 10, 2010 is 135. Wish me luck, will and motivation!

Hi Kurri and welcome to 3FC!

I'm a twin too and from birth I was the heavier one as well. I was 5 pounds 4 ounces and she was 2 pounds 7 ounces.

Good luck with your goals :cheer3:

I'm a fast food-aholic and I'm planning on quitting that cold turkey. When I was thin, I would walk about five miles a night and now I only walk about 1.8 miles a day. I think I'll start my walking again. I've also started using Wii EA Active. I'm not sure how much that helps but it FEELS good. Sometimes it's mind over matter. Plus, standing up and doing something is way better than just sitting on my behind!

I don't have EA Active but I have other programs for the Wii and I love them :D

Hey Michelle! I didn't know you were a twin. They run rampant in my family on both sides. Each pregnancy they thought I was going to have twins.

Anyway, Kurri, welcome to the website! I'm sure you'll find so much support and great tips here. Enjoy! ;)

Onederchic 08-30-2009 12:44 AM

Haha. Yes, I am a twin. I have twin cousins, twin nieces and twin nephews :o

SunshineCA 08-30-2009 12:48 AM

So it looks like twins are in abundance in your family as well. ;)
