How many times am I going to "start over?"

Hi All!
My name is Carrie, I am 29 years old and live in Iowa. I started my weight loss journey back in 2006 at 317 lbs. I got down to 247 by Oct 06, then I gradually gained some of that back. I was doing ok, running on my treadmill, and eating well, and then a week ago my Grandmother passed away, and it threw me off track. So now its Sunday night, and I plan to "restart" tomorrow. I am looking for friends for support, and possibly an email buddy. I need people to relate to, that will help keep me on track!

Hi Carrie: Many of us re-start and then re-start again. You're definitely not alone in this. :)

Welcome to the 3FC site! This is a great place for support.

Condolences to you and your family regarding your grandmother.

I understand the relationship between stress and eating. I lost my mom 10 years ago and was thrust into becoming the main caregiver for my dad and my elderly aunt in a nursing home. For 8 years my life was driven by the needs of other people and I seldom made time for myself. When I would finally get home, I would "reward" myself with comfort food.

you can do this - I have spent the past 3 years starting a diest every monday and last week I just said thats it and so far I have had 4 very good days under my belt - look at all you have lost - you are a role moderl for someone like me that is just starting out - sorry about your grandmother! I am 41 and I still think about mine almost every day!

I'm sorry for your loss. :(

As for your weight-loss, maybe you could think of it differently. Instead of calling it "starting over yet again", think of it as "continuing on". Yes, you had an understandable setback, but I prefer to think of setbacks as times when I momentarily got sidetracked and stepped off the trail for a few steps. So just step back on the trail, and continue on in the direction you were going before your Grandmother passed.

Our friend Kaplods, who posts here, has a good analogy. She likens our journey to climbing a tall set of stairs. Just because we fall back one stair, doesn't mean we have to start at the bottom again. Just because we fall back one stair, doesn't mean we should throw ourselves to the bottom! No, we just rest a moment, and then we continue on. Sometimes we lose a stair or two, but that doesn't mean the whole journey has been for naught.

Good luck, and take care!

It's always hard to lose someone you love, and it's so easy to eat more then we planned when we grieve.

You'll start over as many times as needed. Sometimes we're good and start over immediately after a challenging situation and other times it takes awhile.

Take care.
