Calling all fatties.....
Well, today is the first Tuesday in June. And so it begins........
I have never been thin. Well, okay, maybe when I was 4? Not in my memory has there ever been a time where I was comfortable or completely happy with my body. This is my journy to get there. Not only to thin-ville but to happy-town with myself. Not only am I going to guage my happiness by what I see in the mirror or the number on the tag of my pants but by how I perceive my body in my mind. How I FEEL about my body. Time to get real. 5'10" 152lbs Goal - 140lbs and have a flatter tummy. I am sick of having muffin top and my answer to that is not bigger pants. So there. Trip to Hawaii in November and I really want to wear a bikini and look and feel fantastic. Not like I want to hide or cover my tummy with something. So how do I do this? I am not sure, which is why I have never been thin. I think. Here's what I am going to try. Complete honesty. None of you here know me so I have nothing to lose. Today is good so far. Protien shake with soy milk, strawberries and 1/2 banana. 2 bites of my son's pancake. Coffee with soy milk. Bite of chocolate that dear husband brought me and then I spit it out in the garbage. SPIT IT OUT!!!!!!!! Was not good chocolate but believe me when I say that that would never have stopped me in the past. Ugh. This will be tough. Supposed to be, isn't it? If you are reading this - I really need support and encouragement. Any thoughts and comments are appreciated. |
Your weight and height seem good honestly, if you are feeling flabby how about concentrating on exercises that target your muscles and help you tone up? Like lifting weights and crunches and so on?
I don't know about anyone else- but I'm not a "fatty." :p |
i agree that you don't seem overweight, but i've never seen you and each of us is built differently and therefore, you might have some extra weight to lose.
Honesty is a great thing; its also why i joined here. I've always been uncomfortable talking about my weight because growing up the only references to weight that were ever made in my house were when my mother was talking about how we all need to lose weight. It's just been this year that im even willing to talk about my weight with my best friend (and it also inspired my name, where i will be myself, 100%, no faking or pretending to be comfortable with my body, when really im not). but anywho (sorry for the tangent). i hope you find great support here. These ladies are amazing and are sure to help you lose the weight in a healthy way welcome to 3fc :D |
I know to most that I am not overweight on paper. My hieght and weight and bmi are in 'normal' ranges. But how my body looks is different. I have a 35 inch waist. This is a problem for me as all my fat sits on my belly.
My biggest weight loss was over 5 years ago when I went from 209 to 160 and since then the last 10 or so has come off on it's own. I worked hard before I had kids to get my tummy to a better place where I was happier with it and got to 140 - hence my goal. I have found that more exercise for me doesn't work as well as being strict with my diet. I end up eating more cause I feel like I am starving when I try to exercise a lot and eat a lot less. So frustrating!!! |
I think calling the people on this board 'fatties' is not going to get you the help you want.
|
Okay - not calling all people fatties - calling myself fattie. Me - I am the fatty. Not meant disrespecfully - meant funnily. Sense of humor and all. Appologies to those who take offence. Trying to make light of a heavy situation. See? There I go again......
I mean - we ARE on a site called '3 FAT chicks' are we not? |
lol i found it funny. i actually clicked into ur thread cuz my mind went "fatties? hey! thats me!"
no offense taken, at least not on my part. that is why we are all here after all, because we are fat/overweight/obese/pudgy/chubby/jiggly/etc. changing what you call it doesn't change the facts that being here is for weight loss (or weight maintenance for those who have completed their journey). It is what it is and someday soon, i hope to attach "former" onto "fatty". |
Amen.

If you hold weight in your tummy and want it to redistribute, I would highly suggest weight lifting. It will tone you and help control insulin which is usually the main cause of stubborn belly fat.
I am also not "technically" overweight, but I hold my weight in my belly. Weight lifting is the only thing that helped change my body's proportions. |
Could you possibly afford a trainer? I would say if it's mostly belly then you probably need to concentrate on exercises for that area.
Check out this article: http://www.webmd.com/diet/features/t...bout-belly-fat If you eat a lot of unrefined carbs it's time to cut those out- they seem to contribute to belly fat- try changing up the diet with whole grains and fiber and some good fats as suggested in the article. Good luck |
Thanks for your ideas! Weight lifting is something I am not currently doing and I have already started cutting out all refined carbs. Occasional whole grain wraps but other than that just oatmeal for bread-type carbs. And of course sugar and stuff with sugar in it.
I have some exercise bands and free weights. I also have the 10 minute trainer dvd's so I could use those once I get off my a** and just do it! I have to stop thinking and talking and DO! |
Looking at your photo in your profile; your idea of fat is the kind I'd love to have. Sorry. I think you might have an unrealistic view of your own body image. i.e., most would love to have your "problem" / body. :: shrugs ::
|
I lol'd when I read the subject, I love it... and the fact that you have issues with your tummy, well, I hear you on that after two babies myself! I think you look great but I would have to agree with the posters who advocate weight/strength training, it is fantastic! I am doing (among other things) the Chalean Extreme workout and would highly recommend it, or perhaps a personal trainer at your gym if you're not a home workout kind of person.
