New Person
Hi all, I went on Friday to have a heart checkup. Well, I am overweight (221), didn't need a test for that news. My cholesteral and tryglicerides and way too high. I have high blood pressure and have blockages in the arteries of my heart. 7.1% in the right and 5.7 % in the left. My sister and I went at the same time and her cholesteral and tryglicerides are high, too. She is not overweight and her blood pressure is fine. They believe the cholesteral is genetic as our mother and grandmother both had the same problems and weight was also not an issue with them. But I know that I cannot blame all of mine on heredity.
I have decided that I do not want to die while I am still young (46). I want to enjoy this life and to try to be healthier. (It is really hard). It is my hope to control everything with diet and excercise as I hate taking pills. Now, I have to grocery shop for just myself. That is something that is really new. If most women are like me, I tend to buy what the dh likes before I buy what I want. He is alot more of a picky eater than I am. Anyway, that is my story so far. Today is the first day of this new life. I quit smoking on Friday also. But, so far so good. Getting my treadmill cleaned off and preparing to take all of this seriously. So, off we go.;) |
Hi There:sunny:
:welcome3: I am a little older than you, but went through the same thing with the health stuff. As I eat healthier, lose weight and exercise more the numbers have improved. I am grateful for that. I have a treadmill, too, but I don't enjoy it, so I do water aerobics and have started riding a bike. Hard at first, but it gets easier. My DH is 10" taller than I, and weighs almost 40 pounds less. It is hard to not eat all the junk he loves, but I have stopped. I am finding he doesn't mind eating healthier either. I'm new here, too, but enjoy the friends I'm meeting....and when I'm typing I'm not eating!! |
:Welcome: Good luck on your journey

Thank you for your encouragement. My dh has a different idea of healthy than I do. He does not like any greens, such as salad or anything. He really needs to lose some weight, too. But at 6'8", his portion sizes are a little different than mine. He is a definite meat and potatoes kind of guy. Hard to get him to eat anything else. So, we will just be eating different meals. No biggy anymore. We are empty nesters now. Kinda makes it a little easier. One day at a time, I reckon.

My hubby doesn't much care for salads either. But that's ok. While I eat salad with our meat, he has the potatoes and rolls. Doesn't hurt or bother me to sit next to that. :) And welcome! :)
