Tired of living a fear driven life

Hi Everybody,

I just found this site today by doing a calorie search and am so glad I did. A year ago April I had to have surgery and the doctor told me my blood sugars were too high. I knew I was diabetic and had really done nothing about it but take medication; without bothering to lose weight or change my eating habits. I will never forget this doctor I had never met before asking me "What will it take to get you to realize how dangerous this is?".

Well recovering from that surgery is what started me on this road. I hated the pain and the longer than normal healing time. I was afraid of failure and this is why I never tried. While I still have a long road to travel, I hope I will have changed enough to no longer be afraid. I'm also happy to report that while I still have some major poundage to drop, my blood sugars are under control. All I need is a little encouragement and motivation when I'm feeling blue...hopefully I've found that here.

Hey Kealani. My mom is type 2 diabetic with some similar problems. She hasn't decided to change her life yet. I think you should be really proud of yourself for making this decision. I'm also new to this community. Keep us posted on your progress.
