Lost in TX.

I'm 36 in TX. I hadn't really realized that I had gained so much until I went for a check up and my Dr asked me if the plan was to just keep getting bigger. I came home after that and took off all my clothes and looked in the mirror. I was like OMG! How did this happen??? I've never tried to lose weight before, and I'm in love with chili dogs and hot wings. Last time I ran I think was my sophomore year in high school. I ran for 2 min today. I got dizzy and I felt my heart beating in my ears. Obviously I need to start slower. Today it just seems impossible. :(

hi and welcome, i would start out by walking, thats what i do and it's working great, and your dr shouldn't have said that to you, mine mentioned my weight in a gentle way then prescribed me some diet pills to help the process along....

Hello

Hello,

Welcome to the forum. It all starts with the first step.

Hi Melody, welcome!! You don't have to feel lost--you are a part of us now!! Everyone here will help you! You'll see! I agree with Savora about the walking. If you look up information on walking, you'll find that it is wonderful for weight loss and for good health in general, and it is much easier on the joints than running. Just start out slow and work your way up to power walking. I think you'll find you like it! Don't be discouraged, because things are going to get better now! There's so much here, so read lots and post lots! Good luck!! :)

Hey, I am there with you. My highest weight was 232! You can do this. I began my own journey in May '08. I had NO personal trainers, gym membership or delivery meals. All I had was me and of course, GOD! You can do this too. I am one PM away. I am also in the DFW area!

I'm sorry that your doctor said it to you that way but if the end result is that you are motivated to get healthy, you might go back and thank him once you reach your goal.

I'll be cheering for you! This is a life altering decision and one that you will not regret. I hope you come here often to update us on your progress. Remember, even when you make mistakes, sharing them here may help others.

You can do this! Re: running---start slow and get good shoes!

Well one, your doctor is a jerk. That being said, at least his words got you thinking, and that's the first step.

Just take it slow! When I started I couldn't finish five minutes on the elliptical trainer, and now it's fine to do. I still hate running, though. Start small and work your way up. Make sure to find a healthy eating plan that works for YOU, whether it's calorie counting, a meal service, Atkins or whatever. Do what makes you feel good and stick with it, above all else. Slow and steady....

I am so glad you've come here! I believe that running is the devil. hehehe... running and me don't get along.. never have.. however, some say that running is not the best thing anyway.. start walking, get your heart rate up and keep it up for a while at low impact.. it is so much better for your knees, back, ankles.. etc... Get some stamina built up and then if you decide to try ... <shiver> running again, do some walk/run/walk/run spurts.. don't try and start to strong.. take your time. Make it fun. Stay involved and if you need us, we're here to support you and cheer you on!
