Hello!

  • Hi!
I'm new here, but have came across this site before, and enjoyed reading all the different reviews, ideas, and stories so I thought maybe I should join too!
I'm currently a whopping 207! Growing up very thin and fit into adulthood, I slapped on a good 40 pounds when my mother was diagnosed, and subsequently passed away from cancer. I managed to get it together and loose enough weight to get me to a healthy 150ish, and maintain that for a few years. Once I joined college at 23 y.o., and since then, I've steadily put on weight each year (probably a good 10-15lbs) and after loosing my job this winter, found myself an *astonishing* 205! Once I discovered I was tippin' the two's, I hired a personal trainer. I see my PT once a week and do mostly strength training. Very heavy weights! I also quit smoking very quick and started running on the treadmill. In the 3 months I have had a PT and stuck to a work out schedule of 3-4x a week at the gym, plus a couple dance classes a week, I haven't lost a pound!
So, that's where nutrition comes in. Mine is baaaad. The same kinda bad that got my usual athletic self into this mess in the first place. I eat lots of veggies, flax, gluten-free, fruits, soy-milk only, but, I also wont say no to chocolate, ice cream, fries, chips, you name it.
My PT told me to stick to a 6-small meal per day regime with a balance of low-fat protein and veggies/good carbs. I'm not that interested in meat, never have been, so I have a hard time doing this diet. I also feel like I'm pigging out like crazy on the 6 meals a day. If I remember back to my former fit self, I ate 3 squares and a couple apples per day.
So that's me, I hope I can find some great information on here, and give any knowledge I have to others as well! it's great to be here!!!

    Have a great day!
  • Hi Maggiesgirl, welcome! It sounds like you've taken some really good steps to lose the weight, but as you already know, the problem lies in that you "won't say no" to fries, chips, etc. You'll have to cut back if you want to see results from all that hard work! Also, 6 meals basically means 3 small-portion meals and 3 medium-portion snacks. You were close to that concept when you had 3 squares and a couple of apples for snacks. Also, there are other sources of protein than meat, so that shouldn't stop you. If you're determined to lose the weight, you can do it, and this is a great site for support! Glad to have you, and good luck!

  • . . . glad to have you joining us.
  • Welcome to 3fc! We have subforums based on age, eating plan, exercise and more! I'm glad you're here! Surf around and settle in!

Come see us in the weight training subforum. My trainer says training is 90% nutrition and I think she is right. I'm not a huge carnivore either, so I round out my protein options with greek yogurt, cottage cheese, protein shakes, and egg whites. One of my favorite recipes is protein pancakes: 1/3 cup cottage cheese, 1/3 cup oatmeal (not the instant), 2 egg whites....blend and cook like pancakes.
