Post Hi - Newbie from Kansas

Hello. I'm new to the website and forums and I'm optimistic that I'll find support and much needed information here. At 10 yrs old my mother put me on the Atkins diet and I've been on an almost constant diet roller coaster ever since. Even though my last physical came out good, at almost 39 yrs old and 270 lbs and family history of diabetes and heart disease, it's just a matter of time before health problems will start, BUT where do I start? Two years ago I managed to lose 28 lbs and I've kept it off, but I haven't lost anymore. I realized recently that what I did accomplish in 2008 was a "muffin-top". I've never before had a muffin-top and after watching Dr. Oz talk about the fat that develops in and around your organs and how bad it is, it scaires me. I'm not sure if I should follow the Atkins plan, South Beach, Dr. Oz? Do I join WW or Jenny Craig? I just don't know where to go or what to do but I have to do something. I have done so many diet plans and lately I second guess myself so often because there is so much contradictory information out there. I know it takes work and dedication, I just don't know which plan to use or where to start. Any suggestions or guidance would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to 3FC!! Surf around and settle in! We have subforums based on age, eating plan, exercise and more. I'm glad you're here!

There are a lot of plans and it can be overwhelming. But a study just came out that shows one plan is not any better or any worse than any other---you have to find what works for you!

Lots of folks around here count calories (and we have a forum for that!). You might even start just by tracking everything you eat in an online food diary like the Daily Plate. Once you know what you are eating now, you can tweak it and make choices to reduce the daily calories by about 500 per day. It's also important to make sure you are eating enough.

Check out the 100 lb Club and the 300 Club for some of the best support on the web!
